KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Marysa Flieg won the women's javelin title and the Southeast Missouri women's 4x800 meter relay team set a new program record as the Redhawks competed at the 2022 Tennessee Relays Thursday through Saturday at the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
Flieg, the reigning three-time Ohio Valley Conference Female Freshman of the Week, won the javelin competition with 156-11 (47.83m). The Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, native, finished in first place out of 12 athletes for her second career title at SEMO.
The women's 4x800 meter relay team of
Claire Morrill,
Madelyn Gray,
Hannah Eastman, and
Taylor Fox completed the relay in a SEMO program-best time of 9:02.86 (third).
The group surpassed the previous record of 9:09.09 set by Laura Byrne, Debbie Kilpatrick, Pam Palmer and Jennella Torrence in 1985.
The Redhawks relay team of Morrill, Gray, Eastman, and Fox finished third overall at the Relays.
Morrill is also third in the SEMO record books for the relay, finishing in 9:10.64 with
Carli Knott,
Katie Wegmann and
Brianna Payton in 2021.
Jaden Kight (134-04, 40.94m) and
Emma Sexton (113-02, 34.50m) finished in fourth and eighth place, respectively, in the women's javelin.
Shea DeGraaf, a Knoxville, Tennessee, native, totaled 6,513 points for 15th in the decathlon at the Relays while
Isaac Readnour finished with a personal best 6,224 points (19th). DeGraaf finished first in the high jump (6-10.25, 2.09m) and third in pole vault (15-11, 4.85m) and javelin (175-11, 53.62m).
Readnour now ranks fifth all-time in SEMO program history for decathlon. He finished as high as eighth in the pole vault, reaching a height of 13-11.25 (4.25m).
Kaitlyn McGinnitey totaled 3,951 points for 14th in the heptathlon. She now is ninth all-time in the Redhawk record books for the event.
McGinnitey finished as high as 11th in the heptathlon long jump, clearing 17-05 (5.32m).
The men's and women's hammer throw concluded the first day of the three-day event.
Nicole Humphreys led the way for the Redhawks in the women's hammer throw finishing in 11th place. Humphreys, from nearby Jackson, Missouri, hurled a throw of 184-5 (56.21m).
Competing in the event as well were
Makenzie Williams who finished 16th (167-10, 51.17m) and
Megan Deimeke finishing in 29th place with a final throw of 149-3 (45.49m).
On the men's side,
Logan Blomquist chucked the hammer 222-9 (67.89m) for fourth out of 27 athletes.
Dylan Clark (177-8, 54.16m),
Clay Alewelt (177-7, 54.13m), and
Marshall Swadley (175-2, 53.41m) finished in 17th, 18th, and 19th, respectively, in the hammer throw.
Anthony Forrest finished in sixth place in the men's 110-meter hurdles race. Forrest crossed the line in 14.44 which set a new personal-best for his career.
Dillon Lay (10.91),
Brock Wood (10.98), and
Anthony Forrest (11.34) all competed in the men's 100-meter dash finishing in 19th, 20th, and 24th, respectively.
On the women's side,
Breanna Miles led the way finishing in 17th place in the 100-meter dash. The Memphis, Tennessee, native, crossed the line in 12.23.
Daja Gordon (12.42, 22nd) and
Sandrea Cogio (12.61, 23rd) also ran in the event.
Laila Hardin finished in fifth place in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Hardin crossed the line in 1:05.18.
In the men's 400-meter dash,
Colin Schwab finished in 13th in 51.62.
Terrico Garrett ran in the men's 800-meters on Friday crossing the finish in 1:55.57 for eighth place out of 31 athletes.
Markeith Crawford also ran in the event for SEMO, finishing in 25th place (1:58.75).
On the women's side,
Claire Morrill finished in 2:16.31 for 18th place in the 800 meters.
Friday's 200-meters dash consisted of three Redhawks. Lay (21st, 22.53), Schwab (23rd, 22.82), and
Brock Wood (25th, 22.90) took part in the event for SEMO.
Miles led SEMO in the women's race in 25.67 (21st) followed by Gordon (27.57, 27th).
Three Redhawks competed in the women's 1,500 meters.
Taylor Fox led the way finishing in 14th place with a personal-best time of 4:37.78.
Hannah Eastman (30th, 4:46.56) and
Madelyn Gray (36th, 4:50.50) competed in the event along with Fox.
The men's side saw
Byron Sowerby,
Justin Splitt, and
Noah Little take part in the 1,500 meters. Sowerby led the Redhawks with a 12th place finish, crossing the line in 3:57.03. Splitt (4:00.77) and Little (4:10.84) finished 22nd and 36th, respectively.
Jane Boessen finished the 5,000 meters in a personal-best 17:44.00 (17th).
Humphreys took 11th in the women's discus throw. She achieved a throw of 142-10 (43.54m).
Makenzie Williams finished in 13th (135-06, 41.30m).
On the men's side, Blomquist paced the Redhawks with a distance of 172-7 (52.61m) for seventh. Alewelt added a personal best 172-4 (52.52m, eighth). Clark finished with 169-8 (51.72m, 10th).
Mason Brock and
Justin Breault finished in fifth and eighth place, respectively, in the men's javelin throw. Brock heaved the javelin 192-09 (58.76m) while Breault had a feat of 174-05 (53.18m).
In the women's shot put, Deimeke finished eighth with a final distance of 42-6.75 (12.97m).
Swadley led the way for the men's shot put. The freshman from Willard, Missouri, finished with 54-10.75 (16.73m) for fourth. Alewelt (49-8.25, 15.14m) and Clark (48-2.5, 14.69m) placed 12th and 16th, respectively, for the event.
In the women's shot-put Invitational (power hour), Humphreys represented SEMO. Humphreys tossed the shot 48-00.75 (14.65m), placing fifth out of nine athletes competing.
Serena Williams finished ninth in the women's triple jump. Williams registered 37-2.25 (11.33m) on her third try.
In the men's 1,600-meter sprint medley, the Redhawks team made up of Lay, Schwab, Wood, and Little placed second in 3:39.35.
On the men's side, Garrett, Splitt,
Byron Sowerby, and Crawford placed fourth. The four Redhawks completed the 4x800 meter relay in 7:42.42.
SEMO will next compete at the Redbird Challenge on the campus of Illinois State in Normal, Illinois, April 15-16.
