Sawyers vs. USI
SEMO and USI have met 10 times prior to this weekend making this series the 11th, 12th, and 13th meeting on the diamond. The Redhawks are 5-5 against USI under 10th year Head Coach Andy Sawyers as USI swept SEMO last season in Evansville, Indiana. The Redhawks' last win against USI came in the 2024 OVC Tournament as SEMO defeated USI 11-5 in the semifinal round en route to a tournament championship.

Wednesday Bounce Back
SEMO Baseball snapped its four-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a 7-5 victory over Austin Peay of the ASUN Conference. The Redhawks spent most of the day manufacturing their runs as they drew a season-high 11 walks scoring two-of-seven runs off the free pass from APSU pitching. Catcher Tank Sims had a career day as he finished 4-4 at the plate and drove in a pair of RBIs. The Redhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning before scoring a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to seal the victory. LHP Ranard Grace made his first career start on Wednesday night and pitched 2.0 innings of flawless baseball. RHP John-Paul Sauer (3-1) picked up his third win of the season as he relieved Grace and pitched 3.0 innings of one-run baseball. LHP Jackson Kranawetter picked up save number 10 on the season as he came in in the ninth and punched out three Governors to claim SEMO's 32nd victory of the season.

The weekend series with Southern Indiana marks the final home series of the careers of 15 senior Redhawks.  Eddie White, Nathan Mertens, Kolton Lyman, Caden Kickhaefer, Cameron Marchi, Gavin Johnston, Mason Pennington, Ranard Grace, Jackson Kranawetter, John Klus, Moises Rosario, Demitri Shakotko, Carson Schrack, Andrew Ramirez, and Mikey Rocha will all play in their final game(s) at Capaha Field and will be honored prior to the final game of the series.

Thanks For the Gift
Wednesday's game marked a season-high for the Redhawks offense at the plate. SEMO drew 11 walks against Austin Peay which is the most in a single game for the Redhawks in 2026. Previously, SEMO's offense had drawn 10 walks two different times once against Milwaukee (3/8) and the other against Western Illinois (3/29). First baseman Cal Sullivan led the team with three walks Wednesday night.

Second All-Time
Second baseman Brooks Kettering drew two walks last night against Austin Peay and brought his career total to 127 walks in just three seasons. He surpassed current Redhawks Associate Head Coach, Trevor Ezell, who now ranks fourth in career walks (122) and Jason Blum (2012-15) who finished his career with 123 walks. Kettering is just 80 walks away from tying the program's record for walks in a career set by Clemente Bonilla (1999-02) who finished his career with 207 career walks.

Plunked
Centerfielder Caleb Klein was plunked by another pitch on Wednesday night bringing his total to 18 HBPs this season. Klein continues to lead the Ohio Valley Conference and ranks 39th in the country. He's averaging 0.38 HBPs per game which is atop the OVC and 64th in the nation.

On The Cusp
LHP Jackson Kranawetter is just one save away from tying the SEMO Baseball single-season record. After recording his 10th save on Wednesday night against Austin Peay, Kranawetter needs just one more save to tie Brad Smith (2004) who recorded 11 saves in a single season. Kranawetter leads the OVC in saves and ranks eighth in all of DI Baseball as Albert Roblez of Oregon State (14) is the nation's leader.

Nation's Best
RHP Nathan Mertens is the country's best pitcher in strikeout-to-walk ratio and walks allowed per nine innings. Mertens has a 24.50 K/BB mark and allows just 0.35 walks-per-nine this season. In 51.2 innings pitched, Mertens has 49 strikeouts and just two walks.

Producers
DH Joe Hall and first baseman Cal Sullivan are the top two RBI producers in the Redhawks' lineup. The duo has driven in 93-of-302 RBIs for the Redhawks this season. Hall leads the club with 48 RBIs followed closely by Sullivan with 45. They rank eighth and ninth, respectively, in the Ohio Valley Conference in RBIs.

Winning Percentage
After Wednesday's victory, SEMO Baseball improved to 32-16 overall in 2026 which is a .667 winning-percentage. The Redhawks have the best winning percentage in the Ohio Valley Conference and rank 34th in the country with that mark.
