NORMAL, Ill. – Logan Blomquist registered a trio of top-two performances including a pair of career bests as Southeast Missouri track & field competed at Illinois State's Redbird Challenge Saturday at the Redbird Track & Field Complex.
Blomquist, a senior from Pleasant Hill, Missouri, won the hammer throw and finished second in both the discus and shot put.
Blomquist took first in the hammer throw with a personal-best distance and Redbird Challenge record of 235-2 (71.68m). He surpassed his previous PR of 232-6 (70.87m) set at the Rhodes Invitational March 18-19. The former Redbird Challenge record was 67.14m set by Curtis Wideman of Southern Illinois in 2015.
Blomquist was previously third in the NCAA West Region for hammer and should see his ranking increase this week.
Blomquist also had a personal-best shot put mark of 59-0.75 (18.00m) for second overall at ISU's meet. He now ranks fifth all-time in SEMO program history for the event.
In the NCAA West Region, Blomquist stood 45th entering the weekend for shot put.
Lastly, he was the runner-up in the discus with 164-9 (50.21m).
Nicole Humphreys registered a hammer throw mark of 186-11 (56.97m) to also win the event.
Makenzie Williams added a personal-best throw of 176-0 (53.66m) for second after Humphreys.
Megan Deimeke finished with 159-10 (48.72m, seventh).
Dylan Clark posted a hammer throw of 200-7 (61.14m) for second after Blomquist.
Clay Alewelt tallied a feat of 185-10 (56.64m) for fourth and
Marshall Swadley had a mark of 180-5 (55.00m, sixth).
Mason Brock and
Marysa Flieg swept the men's and women's javelin competitions.
Brock won the men's event with a throw of 197-2 (60.09m) while Flieg, the three-time Ohio Valley Conference Female Freshman of the Week, registered a distance of 155-3 (47.33m) for her third career event title.
Jaden Kight added a javelin throw of 133-9 (40.77m) for third and
Emma Sexton was fourth on the women's side with 122-7 (37.37m).
Justin Breault, the 2021 OVC Javelin Champion, finished with 178-10 (54.52m) for second Saturday and
Josh Kile had a heave of 162-8 (49.58m, fifth).
Ciara Potter notched a long jump of 18-0.5 (5.50m) for second overall at the Challenge.
Nick South propelled himself over a pole vault height of 15-7 (4.75m) for third while
Katie Schumer was fifth in the women's competition with 11-1.75 (3.40m).
Maddie Keller completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:20.67 for third at the meet.
Mackenzie Pugh took fourth in 12:30.37.
On the men's side,
Clayton Eftink was fourth in 9:51.55.
Aaron Modrow was clocked at 15:21.54 for third in the men's 5,000 meters.
Seth Gleason followed in 15:28.78 for fourth.
Humphreys and
Makenzie Williams combined for second and third in the women's discus. Humphreys registered a throw of 151-7 (46.21m) and
Makenzie Williams added a mark of 137-5 (41.88m).
Deimeke finished ninth with 122-4 (37.28m).
Alewelt took sixth (156-3, 47.62m) in the men's discus competition and Swadley had a distance of 128-11 (39.29m, ninth).
Swadley also took fourth in the shot put with 54-2 (16.51m). Clark added a throw of 52-5.25 (15.98m, sixth) and Alewelt finished with 49-6.5 (15.10m, eighth).
On the women's side, Humphreys finished with a distance of 43-5 (13.23) for fifth. Deimeke added a throw of 38-2 (11.63, ninth) and
Makenzie Williams finished with 36-11 (11.25m, 11th).
Mason Clough finished third in high jump, surpassing 6-0.75 (1.85m).
Sophie Dubis overcame a women's high jump of 4-11 (1.50m) on her first attempt for fifth.
Ellie Gamradt cleared the same height on her second try for eighth.
Serena Williams finished seventh in the 100-meter dash in 12.50 Saturday after qualifying with a time of 12.31.
Kaylee Eakin (12.92, PR, 19th) competed in the prelims on the women's side while
Colin Schwab (11.48, 22nd) and
Xzavier Bartlett (11.74, 25th) represented the Redhawks men in the prelims.
Schwab then completed the 200 meters in 22.93 (18th) and Bartlett was clocked at 24.16 (27th). The duo also ran in the 400 meters, completing the lap around the track in 50.78 (12th) and 52.28 (19th), respectively.
On the women's side,
Serena Williams finished the 200 meters in 27.06 (20th) and
Erika Mellor crossed the finish in 27.84 (26th).
Eakin then concluded the 400 meters in 1:09.62 (23rd).
Austin Perkins registered an 800 meters mark of 2:00.93 (14th).
Brianna Payton then finished the women's 800 meters in 2:19.68 for seventh followed by Mellor (2:19.68, eighth).
In the men's 1,500 meters,
Travis Sickles paced the Redhawks, completing the race in 4:09.33.
Thomas Doss added a mark of 4:14.70 (16th).
Payton then finished the women's race in 4:54.98 (16th) followed by
Haley Smith (4:58.50, 17th).
Sarah Russom then wrapped the women's 5,000 meters in 19:28.53 (16th).
The Redhawks men's 4x400 meter relay team of Schwab, Perkins, Eftink and Bartlett finished in 3:32.93 for sixth.
SEMO next heads to Bloomington, Indiana, for the Indiana Invitational April 22-23.
