CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Donald Hatfield Jackson set a new Southeast Missouri track & field long jump record as the Redhawks hosted the 2021 Drury Hotels Joey Haines Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Abe Stuber Track Complex.
Hatfield Jackson surpassed
Blake Smith's mark (25-8, 2015) with a career-best 7.83m (25-8.25) Saturday in his fifth long jump attempt to win the event. The mark ranks fifth in the NCAA West Region.
The SEMO men's team placed first overall in the team competition with 176.5 points. The Redhawks women finished fourth (124) as Murray State topped the leaderboard with 167 points.
Brock Wood finished seventh in the long jump with a feat of 6.71 and
Victor Mathuthu concluded the meet with 6.61 (ninth).
On the women's side,
Lauryn James had a career-high long jump of 5.99m for third in the field event.
Ciara Potter (5.81m, eighth),
Tayler Gudde (5.17m, 19th) and
Leslie Brooks (4.87m, 23rd) also partook in the competition.
Kaitlyn Shea won the 1,500 meters in a personal-best time of 4:31.07. The mark moves Shea to ninth all-time in the SEMO record books for the race.
Katie Wegmann finished in second, clocking in at a personal-high 4:36.05.
Taylor Fox (5:01.08, PR, 16th) and
Danielle Mohrmann (5:09.91, 27th) also ran in the distance for SEMO.
The Redhawks won the 800 meters for both genders.
Carli Knott secured first, clocking in at 2:12.73 and
Terrico Garrett won the event in 1:55.02.
Claire Morrill finished fourth in the 800 meters (2:15.59) followed by Shea (2:17.72, eighth, PR) and
Nia Rivers (2:39.69, 28th).
Austin Perkins (2:00.38, 11th),
Noah Little (2:01.18, 17th),
Clayton Eftink (2:01.47, 18th),
Thomas Doss (2:02.51, 22nd),
Justin Splitt (2:02.77, 25th),
Aaron Modrow (2:02.77, 37th),
Trevor Falco (2:07.28, 38th) and
Kory Snyder (2:07.39, 40th) also ran in the distance for the Redhawk men.
Anthony Forrest placed first in the 110 meter hurdles in 14.93.
Dillon Lay completed the race in 15.74 (seventh) and
Brock Wood finished right on Lay's tail in 16.04 (ninth).
Wood then took the top spot in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the finish in 54.92. Lay placed third in 57.60. On the women's side,
Kendall Long was the runner-up in 1:02.84
Nick Bryant concluded the 400 meters second overall with a time of 48.89. He was also third in the 200 meters in a personal-best 22.09.
SEMO's men finished in three of the top four positions for pole vault.
Nick South won the event, overcoming 4.90m. DeGraaf was second with 4.75m and Bissell was third (14-7.25, 4.45m, PR). Readnour added a height of 4.15m (seventh).
Mathuthu (14.66m, first) and Hatfield Jackson (14.54m, second, PR) went one-two in the triple jump.
Serena Williams notched a career-best triple jump mark of 40-9.5 (12.43m) to finish second on the event.
Leslie Brooks was fifth (38-3.5, 11.67m)
Hatfield Jackson won his second event of the day, with 7-0.5 (2.15m, PR) in the high jump. Bissell overcame 1.85m for sixth.
On the women's side,
Serena Williams hurdled over a height of 1.60m in the high jump for fifth.
Briann Jenkins (1.60, sixth) and
Ellie Gamradt (1.55m, ninth) also competed in the event for SEMO.
Dylan Clark took third in the shot put, posting a career-best throw of 16.12m on his first attempt.
Clay Alewelt finished eighth with 14.65m.
Jane Boessen was fourth (18:52.58) and
Maddie Keller took sixth (18:54.40) in the women's 5,000 meters.
Clark also had a discus mark of 48.47m. Alewelt (153-2, 46.70m, 10th, PR), Bissell (38.52m, 19th), DeGraaf (37.16m, 21st) and Readnour (27.36m, 23rd) also competed in the discipline for SEMO.
Josiah Kilgore registered a personal-best javelin throw of 60.82m for third.
Justin Breault was fifth (59.24m) and DeGraaf took eighth (51.63m).
Readnour (45.08m, 14th),
Josh Kile (43.79m, 16th), Bissell (43.28m, 17th) and Alewelt (127-8, 38.91m, 18th) also competed in the event for SEMO.
Jaden Kight made her Redhawks debut in the javelin with a toss of 131-4 (40.03m, eighth).
Kaylee Johnston (119-10, 36.54m), Gudde (109-4, 33.33m) and
Briann Jenkins (92-5, 28.18m) also threw in the event for SEMO.
Anya Tonga captured third in the shot put with a heave of 14.52m.
Nicole Humphreys was sixth (12.72m) and
Makenzie Williams had a feat of 11.65m (11th).
Tayler Gudde also tallied a throw of 8.19m (18th).
Makenzie Williams concluded the discus with a personal-best mark of 48.98m for third overall Saturday. Humphreys was seventh with a personal-high 44.60m and Tonga took ninth (42.11m).
Kristen Carter completed the 100 meter hurdles in 14.72 for fifth at the Invitational.
Briann Jenkins added a time of 18.66 (21st).
Serena Williams led the Redhawk women in the 100 meters, finishing in 12.05 (sixth, PR).
Sandrea Cogio chipped in a time of 12.30 (13th, PR) and
Lauryn James finished in 12.39 (15th).
On the men's side,
Dillon Lay took fifth in 10.88.
Isaac Readnour (11.40, 14th),
Shea DeGraaf (11.60, 16th) and
Jon Bissell (11.78, 17th) also competed in the distance for SEMO.
Anthony Forrest posted a time of 23.50 (19th) in the 200 meters. James completed the race in 25.832 (25.84, ninth).
Cogio (26.11, 16th),
Briann Jenkins (26.65, 24th), Carter (26.99, 27th) and Gudde (27.16, 28th) also ran in the 200 meters representing the SEMO women.
Katie Schumer propelled herself over a pole vault height of 3.50m for fifth at the Invitational.
Schuyler Ogden and
Seth Gleason placed seventh (32:13.27) and eighth (32:14.30), respectively, in the men's 10,000 meters to open Saturday's competition. The marks were career bests for both gentlemen.
Breanna Miles was clocked at 58.92 for seventh in the 400 meters.
Justin Splitt (4:02.30, 16th) and
Noah Little (4:05.03, 23rd) led the Redhawks men's contingent in the 1,500 meters with a pair of personal-best times.

The Redhawks men concluded the Saturday Invitational with a first place showing in the 4x400 meter relay.

Nick Bryant teamed up for a top time of 3:19.65 in the second of two heats.
Splitt, Bissell, Doss and Eftink (3:34.36, ninth), and the 4x400 team of Bailey, Little, Sowerby and Modrow (3:38.34, 12th) also ran in the relay for SEMO.
The SEMO womens' 4x400 meter relay teams finished fourth (3:57.37) and seventh (4:08.84). Miles, Long, Wegmann and Morrill ran on the first relay team and
Brianna Payton, Knott, Fox and Gudde made up the second squad.
Friday
Logan Blomquist won the men's hammer throw on Friday, competing unattached with a distance of 64.89m on his sixth and final attempt.
Clark took fourth, compiling a personal-best mark of 60.50m. Alewelt added a hurl of 47.03m (14th).
Humphreys paced the SEMO women with a feat of 51.84m for sixth overall at the Invitational.
Anya Tonga and
Makenzie Williams added distances of 49.37m (ninth. PR) and 48.43m (10th), respectively.
SEMO next heads to Knoxville, Tennessee, for the Tennessee Relays April 8-10.
