OXFORD, Miss. – The Southeast Missouri Track and Field team continues its outdoor season and makes a second trip to Mississippi this time competing in the Joe Walker Invite in Oxford, Mississippi.
The two-day meet is hosted by Ole Miss and will have 15 schools and 27 total teams competing with 454 total athletes creating 743 total entries for the meet. Notable teams include OVC foe UT Martin, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Arkansas State.
The invite kicks off Friday at noon with the first events in the pentathlon and the hammer throw. The running events starts with the women's 200m at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Redhawks hosted the Joey Haines Invitational and took home 12 event titles. The Redhawks were led by their event champions, beginning on the track where the men's 4x100m relay team of Moore, Witvoet, Smith, and Davis raced to gold in 41.52. In the distance events,
Lauren Eftink claimed the women's 1500m title in 4:46.72, while
Evan Fuller led a dominant men's 1500m effort with a win in 3:56.22, followed by
Trey Mygatt in second (3:56.47) and
Ian Schwierjohn in third (3:58.32) to complete a podium sweep.
Anna Thomason added a victory in the women's 100m hurdles in 14.11, and
Jon'David White matched that performance with a win in the men's 110m hurdles in 14.10.
Jonas Davis took first in the men's 400m in 48.13, while
Erika Mellor won the women's 800m in 2:13.68, followed by Madalyn Gray in second (2:16.04). On the men's side,
Cole Reinders delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning the 800m in 1:49.79, with
Tyler Anderson finishing second in 1:52.58.
Mattea Pearsall captured the women's 5K title in 18:17.30, with
Layla Fliege close behind in second at 18:18.60. In the field,
Zavier Winton won the men's discus with a personal-best throw of 172-10,
Sullivan Gleason cleared 17-0.75 to win the men's pole vault, followed by
Jake Cannon in second (16-6.50) and
Colin Beers in third (16-0.75), and
Andreese Ortiz secured gold in the women's shot put with a mark of 43-0.25.
The squads also had 10 second and third place finishers.
OVC Athletes of the Week
SEMO took home four athletes of the week honors.
Alyssa Repke was the lone female winner earning the Female Freshman of the Week and the team swept the male awards with
Cole Reinders securing Track Athlete of the Week,
Zavier Winton obtained Field Athlete of the Week and
Jon'David White took home Freshman of the Week.
