Baseball Hosts Milwaukee for Weekend Series
Southeast Missouri Baseball (7-7) will return to action this weekend to take on Milwaukee (2-10) from the Horizon League in a three-game set at Capaha Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m., Saturday, and 1 p.m., Sunday in Cape Girardeau.
Sawyers vs. Milwaukee
The Redhawks and Panthers will meet for the fourth, fifth, and sixth time under 10th year head coach Andy Sawyers. SEMO holds a 2-1 record against the Panthers under Sawyers, playing most recently in the 2023 campaign. The Redhawks took two-of-three from Milwaukee in Cape Girardeau after dropping the opening game (3-1). SEMO rallied for a 6-5 and 13-7 victories to secure the series.
Throttling Tuesday
SEMO Baseball hosted Evansville on Tuesday afternoon in midweek action as the Redhawks dominated from start to finish in a 13-4 victory over the Aces. LHP Ben Snider (1-1) picked up his first win of the season in his second start at Capaha Field of his freshman campaign. He controlled the Aces over 4.0 innings, allowed just three hits, and did not surrender a run. He punched out a season-high five strikeouts over the 18 hitters he faced. The SEMO offense pounded out 11 hits to score their 13 runs, highlighted by a three-run home run from Cal Sullivan. Sullivan went the opposite way in the second inning for his fifth-round tripper of the season. The Redhawks scored runs in the first, second, fourth, fifth, and seventh inning(s) to win their second-straight game of the season.
Early Recipe
The Redhawks have played in three games this season in which they have held their opponents to two or less runs. In those games, SEMO holds a 3-0 record as they beat Illinois State (10-1), and Miami (OH) twice (10-2, 4-2).
The Long Ball
SEMO's offense has enjoyed the home run early in 2026 as they are currently 4-0 in games in which the offense records two or more home runs. As a team, SEMO has hit 11 home runs led by junior first baseman Cal Sullivan. Cal has blasted four bombs this season followed by Joe Hall and Caleb Kleinwho each have two homers. The Third
Through 13 games, the SEMO offense has found tremendous success in the third inning of their ballgames. The Redhawks are currently outscoring their opponents 23-4 in the third frame which marks the largest scoring differential over nine innings.
Top of the Order
Center fielder Caleb Klein and designated hitter Joe Hall have hit in the top four of the batting order all season long as the duo has found success through 13 games. The two are each on 10-game hitting streaks which started in the opening series of the season (2/17) against Illinois State, and each have reached base safely in all 13 games this year. Caleb Klein is currently hitting .340 while Hall leads the club with a staggering .423 average.
Three-Straight Games
Joe Terranova made four starts over the five-game week last week as he recorded hits in three-of-the-four starts in left field. Terranova is 6-22 at the plate this season (.273) and has driven in three RBIs including an RBI in game one against Miami (OH).
Career Day
First baseman Cal Sullivan had a SEMO career day on Friday afternoon's game one versus Miami (OH). Sullivan recorded three hits and scored three runs against the RedHawks which both marked career-highs in a SEMO uniform. He has six multi-hit games this season and is batting .346.
Schrack Attack
Second baseman Carson Schrack had an outstanding performance against Miami (OH) in two different games. In Friday's 14-10 victory, Schrack recorded a season-high three RBIs with a pair of hits including a double. He then followed that up on Sunday afternoon with a career-best two doubles in the series finale. Schrack has started nine games this season at second base and is 10-32 at the plate (.312).
Long Ball Lopetegui
Outfielder Ryan Lopetegui left the yard for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon. Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, Lopetegui crushed a 397-foot home run to left field, a two-run shot that gave SEMO its first lead of the afternoon. He then roped an RBI single in the eighth inning to regain the lead for SEMO. Lopetegui has made eight starts this season in right field, he's batting .345 (10-29) this year with a pair of doubles, a home run, and 11 RBIs.
Two Weekends Straight
Caleb Klein has recorded a three-hit game in back-to-back weekends as he recorded his second in Saturday's doubleheader versus Miami (OH). The Redhawks' centerfielder recorded his first three-hit day against Western Kentucky (2/21) before going 3-4 on Saturday and has four multi-hit games this season.
Penny Magic
RHP Mason Pennington made his third start of the season in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Collinsville, Oklahoma-native improved to 2-0 on the season as he pitched a career-high 6.1 innings and lowered his ERA to 2.93 after allowing just two runs. In all three of his starts, the Redhawks are 3-0 as a team following Saturday's 10-2 victory over Miami (OH). In 15.1 innings, Pennington has allowed just five earned runs, punched out 13 opposing hitters, and surrendered just seven walks.
Kran the Starter?
LHP Jackson Kranawetter made his first career start on the mound in a Redhawks uniform on Sunday afternoon. Kranawetter, who led the Ohio Valley Conference in saves in 2025, pitched the first 3.1 innings and allowed just one run on four hits. He punched out a season-high four opposing hitters in 58 pitches while surrendering just one walk.
Dirty Merty
RHP Nathan Mertens picked up his first win of the season as he pitched the final 5.2 innings of Sunday's game in relief of Kranawetter. Mertens, who struck out a season-high seven hitters, did not allow a walk in his third-straight appearance. He surrendered just one run on four hits en route to improving to 1-2 on the season as he lowered his ERA from 12.79 to 7.50 Sunday afternoon.
Nardo Grace
LHP Ranard Grace continued his great start to 2026 in Saturday's contest against Miami (OH). Grace pitched a season-high 2.2 innings and did not allow a run or a walk for the third time this season. In five appearances, Grace has a 2.45 ERA over 7.1 innings pitched out of the pen and has surrendered just two earned runs.
