LEXINGTON, Ky. – Southeast Missouri track & field continued its 2021 outdoor season this weekend with its penultimate regular-season competition at the Kentucky Invitational held at the UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
Kaitlyn Shea won the 3,000 meters Friday in 9:38.07. SEMO also had runner-up performances by
Carli Knott in the 1,500 meters Saturday and
Lauryn James in the long jump Friday.
Saturday
Knott crossed the finish in 4:25.49 for second overall in the 1,500 meters. Shea was fifth in a personal-best 4:28.32.
Jane Boessen completed the race in a PR time of 5:03.47 (35th).
Dylan Clark took third in the discus with a mark of 169-0 (51.52m) on his third attempt.
Clay Alewelt finished with 149-8 (45.62m, 13th).
Katie Wegmann captured third in the 800 meters with a career-high 2:09.27. She ranks first in the Ohio Valley Conference for the event.
Claire Morrill completed the 800 meters in 2:15.73 (13th) followed by Knott (2:17.74, 17th) and
Brianna Payton (2:26.71, 32nd).
Terrico Garrett was also third in the men's 800 meters, crossing the finish in 1:52.37.
Griffin Bailey was clocked at 1:55.70 (13th) and
Austin Perkins added a mark of 2:08.92 (28th).
Serena Williams registered a triple jump of 38-9.75 (11.83) for fourth in the event Saturday.
Ciara Potter added a feat of 33-11.5 (10.35m, 11th).
Anya Tonga paced SEMO in the shot put with a heave of 45-9.75 (13.96m) for fifth overall.
Nicole Humphreys added a mark of 42-1.5 (12.84, 12th).
Makenzie Williams (37-3.75, 11.37m, 22nd) and
Briann Jenkins (29-1.75, 8.88m, 26th) also competed in the event for the women.
Nick Bryant was clocked at 47.87 for sixth in the 400 meters.
Colin Schwab finished in 49.27 (ninth) and
Isaac Readnour had a time of 51.30 (16th).
Clark chucked the shot put 50-2 (15.29m) for eighth in the men's competition. Alewelt chipped in a distance of 46-9 (14.25m, 15th).
Shea DeGraaf finished with 38-11.5 (11.87m, 21st) and
Jon Bissell posted a throw of 34-3 (10.44m, 23rd).
DeGraaf finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.36 after qualifying for the finals with a time of 14.91.
Dillon Lay (15.26, 10th),
Brock Wood (15.30, 12th), Readnour (15.85, 14th), Bissell (16.56, 16th) and
Anthony Forrest (17.60, 17th) all ran in the prelims for the event.
Katie Schumer propelled herself over a personal-best pole vault height of 12-0.5 (3.67m) for 10th at the Invitational. She now ranks fourth in the OVC for the field event.
Ellie Gamradt overcame a height of 5-2.5 (1.59m, 11th) in the high jump.
Briann Jenkins tallied a mark of 5-0.5 (1.54m, 15th).
Makenzie Williams paced the women in the discus with a mark of 139-2 (42.43m, 14th). Humphreys posted a throw of 130-3 (39.70m, 21st).
Byron Sowerby led the men in the 1,500 meters, concluding the race in 3:55.15 (16th).
Noah Little (3:58.25, 21st),
Justin Splitt (4:00.65, 25th) and
Aaron Modrow (4:07.37, 29th) also represented the Redhawks in the distance.
Kristen Carter completed the 100-meter hurdles in 14.65 (19th) followed by
Briann Jenkins (15.94, 32nd) in the qualifying heats.
The SEMO women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Kendall Long, Wegmann, Morrill and
Breanna Miles finished in 3:58.22 for eighth.
The Redhawk men took third in the 4x400 meter relay. The squad of Bryant, Schwab, Garrett and Wood completed the relay in 3:14.72.
Friday
Shea won the 3,000 meters Friday in 9:38.07. Wegmann crossed the finish in a personal best 10:38.51 (10th) and Boessen posted a PR of 10:52.83 (18th).
James took second in the long jump, notching a mark of 19-2.00 (5.84m).
Ciara Potter concluded the competition with 18-3.25 (5.57m, seventh) and
Tayler Gudde chipped in a jump of 16-6 (5.03m, 19th).
Jaden Kight secured third in the women's javelin, posting a distance of 124-4 (37.89m). Gudde added a throw of 100-2 (30.54m, ninth).
The Redhawk men finished third, fourth, sixth and seventh in the javelin.
Justin Breault led the way with a throw of 170-00 (51.83m) for third.
Josiah Kilgore was fourth with 169-6 (51.67m) followed by DeGraaf (159-0, 48.47m, sixth) and Readnour (143-4, 43.68m, seventh).
Long was clocked at a season-high 1:01.47 for fifth in the 400-meter hurdles. Long now ranks first in the OVC for the event in 2021.
Wood took sixth in the men's competition in 55.22.
Dillon Lay tallied a time of 57.05 (15th).
Nick South propelled himself over a pole vault height of 15-6.25 (4.73m) for sixth in the field event.
Jack Rinehart registered a feat of 14-6.25 (4.43m, eighth).
Readnour also had a personal-best long jump of 22-4.50 (6.82m, eighth) in Friday's opening day of the Invitational.
DeGraaf overcame a height of 6-3.50 (1.92m, seventh) in the men's high jump.
Alewelt tallied a hammer throw mark of 161-8 (49.29m, 10th).
Logan Blomquist won the event with a personal-best mark of 226-0 (68.90m), competing unattached. Blomquist has nabbed the top spot in the hammer throw three times in 2021 as an unattached competitor.
Modrow led the men's contingent in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 8:59.10 (11th).
Seth Gleason (9:00.13, 12th) and Sowerby (9:01.63, 13th) followed Modrow in the race.
Little (9:24.40, 17th), Splitt (9:28.01, 18th) and
Schuyler Ogden (9:40.28, 19th) also ran in the race for the Redhawk men.
Miles completed the 200 meters in 24.87 (22nd) and
Sandrea Cogio finished in 26.12 (41st).
Bryant paced the men in the 200 meters with a career-best time of 21.87 (20th). Schwab (22.20, 24th), Forrest (23.10, 32nd, PR) and Bissell (23.73, 33rd, PR) also represented the Redhawks in the race.
Serena Williams (11.90, 10th) and Cogio (12.23, 18th) both ran in the prelims for the 100-meter dash. On the men's side,
Victor Mathuthu finished in 11.31 (23rd).
Looking Ahead
SEMO will next split squads for their final regular season competitions on May 7. The Redhawks will head to the Gibson Track & Field Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana, for the Pacesetter Sports Invitational and the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
SEMO will then travel to Charleston, Illinois, for the 2021 OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship May 13-15.
