WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Southeast Missouri Track & Field kicked off the 2022-23 Indoor season where they left off in the 2021-22 season with an impressive showing at the Purdue Edmonds-Wilt Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Six Redhawks achieved personal bests on Saturday coming in a variety of events.
Todjai Ross,
Brenden Parham,
Parker Feuerborn,
Makenzie Williams,
Breanna Miles, and
Xzavier Bartlett all recorded their career bests in their respective competitions.
Ross achieved a 17-11 ¾ (5.48m) in the women's long jump.
Brendan Parham set a new PR in the men's 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.21 in the events first round.
Senior
Parker Feuerborn set a new personal-best in the weight throw, with a 69-2 (21.08m) mark.
Makenzie Williams set her new personal-best in the weight throw as well with a heave of 56-10 ¼ (17.33m).
Breanna Miles raced the women's 60-meter dash in 7.63 for her new personal record.
Bartlett, in the men's 300-meter dash, crossed the line in 36.65 to set the PR in the event.
Luke Hatfield-Jackson continued his 2021-22 success into the start of the 2022-23 indoor campaign by winning the men's high jump competition on Saturday. Hatfield-Jackson leaped over a height of 6-10 ¾ (2.10m) to win the event.
Sophomore
Mason Clough took third place with a high jump of 6-1 ¼ (1.86m).
Seth Gleason won the Men's 3000-meters race over Northern Colorado's Isaac Rascon by a near 15-second difference. Gleason crossed the line in 9:12.92 while Rascon finished in 9:27.65.
Field events kicked off at 9:30 a.m. with the women's weight throw that saw three Redhawks athletes place in the Top eight of the event.
Makenzie Williams picked up where she left off in the 2021-22 campaign, placing second in the weight throw competition. Her best throw out of six total traveled 56-10 ¼ (17.33m) shattering her previous personal-best (16.56m) set last year at the same competition.
Senior
Megan Deimeke and Freshman Bailie Hux placed fifth and eighth, respectively. Deimeke's best throw came on attempt number two and flew 54-6 ½ (16.62m). Hux's first collegiate outing in the weight throw landed 50-11 ½ (15.33m) from the throwing circle.
In the shot put, it was Deimeke who led the Redhawks finishing fifth overall with a 41-1 (12.52) heave on her second attempt.
Freshman Bailie Hux making her debut in the shot put for SEMO, placed seventh with a 39-1 ¼ (11.92m) mark for her new personal-best.
Makenzie Williams placed third in the event (37-8, 11.48m).
In the women's high jump,
Anna Thomason and
Sophie Dubis placed third and fourth, respectively, for the Redhawks.
Thomason (freshman) making her SEMO debut jumped 5-3 (1.60m) to place third.
Sophie Dubis reached the same exact height as Thomason for a jump of 5-3 (1.60m).
Four Redhawk women placed in the top seven of the long jump competition on Saturday.
Freshmen
Todjai Ross and
Kendall Holweg made their first appearance as a Redhawk placing third and seventh, respectively, in the event.
Ross led the Redhawk field jumping 17-11 ¾ (5.48m) on her sixth and final attempt for the third-place finish.
Serena Williams achieved the same feat to tie Ross on her third jump, finishing fourth.
Ciara Potter competed in the long jump as well placing sixth. Potter landed at 17-7 ½ (5.37m) on her third attempt.
Brianna Payton was the lone Redhawk competing in the women's mile competition. The Senior from Lexington, Kentucky finished seventh overall with a 5:29.37 mark.
On the men's side,
Terrico Garrett and
Seth Gleason placed second and third, respectively, in the mile. Garrett, a Senior from University City, Mo., finished the distance in 4:28.29.
Seth Gleason completed the mile right behind Garrett crossing the line in 4:28.57.
SEMO finished second, third, and fourth in the men's weight throw led by Senior
Parker Feuerborn who set a new personal-best in the event with a 69-2 (21.08m) throw on his fifth attempt of the meet.
Dylan Clark placed third (63-6 ¼, 19.36m) while teammate
Marshall Swadley came in fourth with a 58-4 ½ (17.79m) throw on his first attempt.
Clay Alewelt (53-0 ¼, 16.16m) and Freshman
Quinton Maxwell (45-2 ½, 13.78m), making his SEMO debut, finished eighth and 12
th, respectively.
The final Women's 60-meter hurdles saw Sophomore
Megan Aubuchon and Freshman
Anna Thomason placing fifth and seventh.
Aubuchon finished just behind Bryanna Craig of Purdue (9.06) in a time of 9.09. Thomason crossed the line in 9.14.
On the men's side,
Brock Wood placed fifth for the Redhawks as the lone participant in the 60-meter hurdles. Wood crossed the line in 8.55 finishing just behind Tennessee State's Thurman McMullen.
The women's 500-meters race, Sophomore
Erika Mellor competed in the event for the first time in her SEMO career. Setting a personal-best for the event, she crossed the line in 1:20.40 for third place overall.
On the men's side, three Redhawks finished in the top seven led by junior Mark Crawford who finished second place overall. Crawford completed the 500-meters in 1:05.26 for a new personal-best in the event surpassing his previous 1:06.29-mark.
Xzavier Bartlett set a personal-best in the men's 500-meters finishing in 1:08.73 for the first time running this race in his SEMO career, finishing fifth.
Isaac Readnour ran the 500-meters race for the first time in his SEMO career along with Bartlett. Readnour finished seventh overall in a final time of 1:09.78 for a personal-best.
Colin Beers,
Sullivan Gleason, and
Shea DeGraaf placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, in the men's pole vault.
For Beers and Gleason, the Edmonds-Wilt Invitational marked the SEMO debut for both freshman. Beers set a personal-best with a 14-10 (4.52) feat to capture third place. Gleason finished just behind his teammate for a personal-best with a 14-6 (4.42) mark for fourth.
Junior
Shea DeGraaf placed fifth with a 13-10 (4.22m).
The women's 60-meter dash saw
Breanna Miles as the lone Redhawk in the event. Miles finished the race in 7.63 for a new personal-best, passing her previous mark of 7.64. The junior from Memphis, Tennessee placed fourth in the race.
Two Freshman made their Redhawk debuts on Saturday in the men's 60-meter dash. Chris Johnson and
Luke Collins finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Johnson set his career-best with a 7.02 finish, while Collins marked his best feat in 7.30.
Lily Early was the lone Redhawk in the women's 800-meter race, making her SEMO debut in the process. Early, the Farmington, Mo.-native, crossed the line in 2:24.08 for her best finish of her career.
Five Redhawk women competed in the women's 300-meter race on Saturday, with all five placing in the top-10.
Breanna Miles led the way for SEMO placing third overall with a 40.11 finish for her first ever action in the event. Her teammate
Laila Hardin placed right behind her in fourth, finishing in a time of 41.54 for the first time in her career in the event, as well.
Leanza Dwaah,
Daja Gordon, and
Megan Aubuchon finished seventh (44.34), eighth (44.85), and 10
th (49.28) in their first action in the women's 300-meters. Each time sets a new personal record in the event.
Chris Johnson made his SEMO debut in the men's 300-meter race finishing second out of five runners. Johnson completed the race in 36.56 for a personal-best.
Brock Wood and
Xzavier Bartlett competed as well, placing third and fourth, respectively. Wood crossed the line in 36.61 while Bartlett ended in 36.65.
In the women's 200-meter dash, Freshman
Kendall Holweg, making her Redhawks debut in the event, finished in sixth place to lead all SEMO runners. Holweg, setting a career-mark, crossed the line in 26.81.
Freshman
Clara Billing also set a personal-best for her first experience in the 200-meters in a Redhawk uniform with a finish of 27.12.
Tayler Gudde placed 10
th in a time of 27.56 in the 200-meters as well.
On the men's side, Freshman
Luke Collins was the lone Redhawk to finish the race. The freshman completed the race in 24.69 to set his career best.
The women's triple jump had three Redhawks place in the top eight for the event.
Serena Williams, the Senior from Columbia, Mo., placed third to lead the way for SEMO by jumping to a mark of 38-2 ¾ (11.65m) on her second attempt.
Todjai Ross made her career debut in the triple jump, placing sixth with a 35-3 ¼ (10.75m) on her fifth attempt.
Sophomore
Ciara Potter placed 10
th for SEMO with a 33-6 (10.21m) jump.
The final events of the day included the women's 4x400-meter relay which saw SEMO have three separate groups who finished fourth, fifth, and sixth.
In fourth place,
Daja Gordon,
Laila Hardin,
Leanza Dwaah, and
Breanna Miles completed the relay in 4:07.46.
Fifth place, the team of
Serena Williams,
Tayler Gudde,
Anna Thomason, and
Kendall Holweg crossed the line in 4:09.12.
For sixth place, the Redhawk group of
Erika Mellor,
Brianna Payton, Lily Early, and
Clara Billing finished just behind the fifth-place team with a time of 4:09.16.
On the men's side, SEMO had just one group comprised of
Brenden Parham,
Terrico Garrett, Mark Crawford, and
Isaac Readnour
The Redhawks team completed the relay in 3:25.77 for fourth place overall out of eight teams total.
Track & Field will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 14 for the Redhawks Invite in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The invite will be held at the SEMO Rec Center beginning at 12:00 p.m., CT.
