NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Carli Knott and
Kaitlyn Shea set a pair of Southeast Missouri track & field program records as the Redhawks competed at the two-day Black and Gold Invitational Friday and Saturday on the campus of Vanderbilt.
Knott won the women's 1,500 meters in a SEMO program-record time of 4:23.89. The mark surpasses Laura Byrne's time of 4:24.15 set in 1989.
Shea improved upon her program-best 3,000 meters steeplechase time set (10:34.88) at the 2021 Ole Miss Classic on March 27. The senior from Jefferson City, Missouri, posted a career-best time of 10:19.14 to win the event Saturday at Vanderbilt.
Serena Williams won triple jump with a feat of 39-3.25 (11.97m).
Leslie Brooks also competed for SEMO, finishing with 35-11.25 (10.95m, seventh).
The SEMO men went first, second and third in the pole vault.
Nick South won the event with a height of 15-9 (4.80m) followed by
Tanner Teigen (15-3, 4.65m, second) and
Jack Rinehart (14-9, 4.50m, third).
On the women's side,
Katie Schumer turned in a pole vault height of 11-7.75 (3.55m) for third at the meet.
Nick Bryant finished as the runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 47.23. The mark tied for eighth in SEMO program-history.
Colin Schwab added a mark of 49.22 (sixth) in the distance.
Terrico Garrett captured second in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:50.48.
Griffin Bailey (1:54.16, seventh) and
Austin Perkins (1:55.28, ninth) also represented SEMO in the race.
Isaac Readnour placed third in the men's triple jump, tallying a mark of 43-7.25 (13.29m).
In the women's 400 meter hurdles,
Kendall Long placed 1:01.56 for third.
Katie Wegmann set a new PR in the 800 meters of 2:09.85 for fifth at the Invitational. Knott took sixth in 2:10.16.
Claire Morrill (2:15.99, 16th) and
Taylor Fox (2:21.04, 22nd) also competed in the event for SEMO.
Nicole Humphreys led the SEMO women in the hammer with a throw of 170-3 (51.89m) for sixth.
Anya Tonga added a distance of 155-10 (47.50m, eighth) and
Makenzie Williams finished with 151-2 (46.09m, ninth).
On the men's side,
Dylan Clark was third with 179-5 (54.69m).
Clay Alewelt added a hurl of 163-9 (49.92m, seventh).
Clark also finished fourth in shot put, compiling a mark of 51-9.25 (15.78m). Alewelt tallied a throw of 46-9.50 (14.26m).
Tonga and Humphreys went sixth (44-10.75, 13.68m) and seventh (42-3.5, 12.89m) in women's shot put.
Makenzie Williams finished with 37-4.50 (11.39m, 11th).
Breanna Miles finished the 200 meters in 24.88 (11th).
Lauryn James (26.30, 25th),
Kendall Long (26.69, 31st),
Sandrea Cogio (26.83, 32nd) and
Tayler Gudde (27.27, 33rd) also ran in the race for the SEMO women.
Brock Wood took seventh in the men's race in 22.37 followed by
Nick Bryant (22.57, ninth) and
Colin Schwab (22.58, 10th).
Brianna Payton finished the 1,500 meters in 4:48.13 (10th).
Taylor Fox (4:52.39, 12th) and
Claire Morrill (4:52.70, 13th) also competed for SEMO.
Noah Little and
Terrico Garrett finished the men's race in fifth (3:59.87, PR) and sixth (4:01.07, PR).
Austin Perkins added a time of 4:24.70 (14th).
Seth Gleason completed the 5,000 meters in 14:54.75 to conclude the opening day of the Invitational.
Aaron Modrow finished in 15:12.57 (16th) and
Schuyler Ogden was clocked at 15:45.73 (23rd).
Humphreys and Tonga combined for fourth (142-8, 43.49m) and fifth (140-11, 42.96m) place finishes in the discus.
Clark finished the men's discus fourth (161-6, 49.23m) and Alewelt tallied a throw of 150-0 (45.72m, sixth).
Kaylee Johnston posted a javelin throw of 122-11 for sixth.
Jaden Kight added a distance of 119-3 (36.36m, eighth). Gudde added a throw of 96-2 (29.31m, 13th).
Serena Williams finished fifth in the high jump, surpassing a personal-best 5-4.25 (1.63m).
Ellie Gamradt overcame 5-0.25 (1.53m, 14th).
Tallyn Brazell had a mark of 6-2.75 (1.90m, sixth) in the men's competition.
Ciara Potter paced the SEMO women in long jump with a feat of 16-9.75 (5.12m, seventh). Gudde (15-11.75, 4.87m, 12th) and
Briann Jenkins (15-6.25, 4.73m, 14th) also competed for the Redhawks.
On the men's side, Readnour had a long jump of 21-2.75 (6.47m) to take third. Wood finished fifth (21-1.25, 6.43m).
Justin Splitt finished the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:03.78 for fifth and
Trevor Falco was sixth in 10:15. 87.
Kristen Carter completed the women's 100 meter hurdles in 14.52 (ninth).
Anthony Forrest was clocked at 15.54 in the men's 110 meter hurdles.
Miles finished the 400 meters in 56.66 for fifth overall Saturday.
Serena Williams crossed the finish in the 100 meters in 12.38 (12th). Cogio added a mark of 12.68 (15th).
Byron Sowerby led the SEMO men's contingent in the 3,000 meters, finishing in a personal-record 8:44.16 for fourth. Modrow (8:50.88, seventh),
Seth Gleason (9:00.77, eighth) and Ogden (9:08.33, ninth) also ran in the race for the Redhawks.
SEMO's 4x400 meter relay team of Long, Morrill, Knott and Gudde finished in 3:57.54 for seventh.
The men's 4x400 meter relay squad of Schwab, Bryant, Garrett and Perkins finished as the runners-up in 3:19.47.
SEMO will continue its 2021 season April 24 at the Sycamore Open in Terre Haute, Indiana.
