Shea Sets New Steeplechase Record as Redhawks Compete at 2021 Ole Miss Classic Saturday

OXFORD, Miss. – Kaitlyn Shea set a new Redhawks 3,000 meter steeplechase record as Southeast Missouri track & field competed at the 2021 Ole Miss Classic Saturday at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex.
 
For the second straight week, Shea etched her name in the top spot of the SEMO record books. After setting the 5,000 meters record (16:27.27) March 20 at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic, the senior from Jefferson City, Missouri, took first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase Saturday with a career-best time of 10:34.88.
 
The mark surpassed Juli Koenegstein's time of 10:34.98 set in 2009.
 
Maddie Keller also represented the Redhawks in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing the discipline in 11:50.24.
 
Katie Wegmann won the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:12.08. She is 28th in NCAA Division I West Region. Claire Morrill finished the race in fourth (2:14.89) and Brianna Payton added a time of 2:16.79 (seventh) in the event.
 
Michael Jenkins secured first in the triple jump with a mark of 48-2.50 (14.69m), which puts him 26th in the NCAA Division I West Region.
 
Carli Knott finished as the runner-up in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish in 4:30.40. She ranks 24th for the event in the NCAA Division I West Region.
 
Taylor Fox (5:09.38, 18th) and Danielle Mohrmann (5:25.48, 19th) also ran in the race for SEMO.
 
Serena Williams placed second in the triple jump with a feat of 38-6.25 (11.74m). Leslie Brooks added a jump of 36-5.75 (11.12m, 10th).
 
Aaron Modrow secured second in the 5,000 meters, clocking in at 15:24.59. Seth Gleason (15:39.98, fifth), Schuyler Ogden (15:47.56, sixth), Noah Little (15:57.93, eighth) and Clayton Eftink (16:42.54, 12th) also ran in the race for the SEMO men.
 
Terrico Garrett finished third overall in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:51.17. He ranks ninth for the event in the NCAA Division I West Region. Griffin Bailey added a mark of 1:56.77 (eighth) and Justin Splitt finished in 1:57.67 (10th).
 
Austin Perkins completed the race in 1:58.92 (13th) followed by Byron Sowerby (1:59.62, 14th).
 
Serena Williams took sixth in the women's 100 meters in 12.15. Sandrea Cogio added a time of 12.71 (14th).
 
Breanna Miles then finished the 200 meters with a time of 25.13 (13th). Cogio compiled a time of 26.29 (22nd).
 
On the men's side, Brock Wood was clocked at 22.38 (11th) in the 200 meters.
 
Miles then completed the 400 meters in 57.84 (ninth). Kristen Carter crossed the finish in 1:06.44 (14th).
 
Colin Schwab finished sixth in the men's 400 meters with a time of 49.01. Nick Bryant (51.70, 14th), Isaac Readnour (15th, 52.86) and Anthony Forrest (56.08, 17th) also ran in the distance for SEMO.
 
Splitt took 11th in the 1,500 meters, finishing in 4:03.81. Sowerby completed the race right after in 4:04.71 (12th). Thomas Doss finished the race in 4:11.10 (15th).
 
Jane Boessen concluded the 3,000 meters in 11:03.33 (ninth).
 
Carter then finished the 100 meter hurdles in 14.69 for fifth overall. Serena Williams completed the track event in 15.25 (11th) and Briann Jenkins finished in 18.14 (22nd).
 
In the men's 110 meter hurdles, Forrest led the SEMO contingent, taking eighth in 14.99. Dillon Lay finished in 15.29 (ninth). Readnour (16.19, 14th) and Jon Bissell (16.58, 15th) also competed in the event for the Redhawk men.
 
In the 400 meter hurdles, Kendall Long took third in 1:02.63. Lay added a time of 58.24 in the men's 400 meter hurdles.
 
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Long, Wegmann, Payton and Morrill finished the race in 3:56.90 for fourth.
 
SEMO's men had two relay teams in the 4x400 meters. Bryant, Garrett, Wood and Perkins completed the relay in 3:20.84. Bissell, Splitt, Bailey and Lay concluded the relay in 3:43.56 (eighth).
 
Ciara Potter registered a long jump distance of 17-7.50 (5.37m, seventh). Leslie Brooks (16-2.5, 4.94m, 12th) and Tayler Gudde (15-10.25, 4.83m, 13th) also competed in the field event for SEMO.
 
On the men's side, Donald Hatfield Jackson took fourth with a long jump distance of 23-4.75 (7.13m). Readnour finished with a mark of 21-8 (6.60m, eighth).
 
Hatfield Jackson overcame a high jump height of 6-3.25 (1.91m) for eighth at the Invite. Michael Jenkins registered a feat of 6-1.25 (1.86m, 10th).
 
In the men's pole vault, Nick South surpassed a mark of 15-11.75 (4.87m, sixth). Teigen was the second highest SEMO finisher with 15-5.75 (4.72m, eighth).
 
Nicole Humphreys paced the SEMO women in the shot put with a distance of 40-3.25 (12.27m, 20th). Makenzie Williams chipped in a throw of 33-8 (10.26m, 23rd).
 
Williams tallied a discus hurl of 147-2 (44.85m, 13th) and Humphreys added a mark of 130-7 (39.81m, 20th).
 
Humphreys had a hammer throw finish of 176-5 (53.77m, 14th). Makenzie Williams concluded the competition with 136-8 (41.67m, 25th).
 
Dylan Clark recorded a shot put distance of 48-1.75 (14.67m, 15th). Clay Alewelt added a mark of 46-0.50 (14.03m, 19th).
 
Clark notched a discus feat of 169-3 (51.60m) for sixth at the Invite. Alewelt finished with 149-10 (45.68m, 12th).
 
Clark also had a hammer throw of 182-1 (55.50m, seventh). Alewelt added a hurl of 152-11 (46.61m, 19th).
 
Kaylee Johnston led a trio of SEMO women in the javelin. She finished with a throw of 120-6 (36.73m) for sixth. Gudde (99-3, 30.25m, ninth) and Briann Jenkins (86-8, 26.42m) also competed in the event for the Redhawks.
 
In the men's javelin, Josiah Kilgore paced the Redhawks with a distance 193-0 (58.84m) to take third at Saturday's Invite.
 
Justin Breault was fourth (184-9, 56.31m) and Josh Kile finished fifth (155-0, 47.24m). Jon Bissell added a heave of 133-11 (40.83m).
 
SEMO will next host the 2021 Drury Hotels Joey Haines Invite on April 2-3 at the Abe Stuber Track Complex. Friday field events will start at 3:30 p.m. with the hammer throw. Saturday field events are set for 11 a.m. and the 10,000 meters opens the second day of the Invite at 10 a.m.
