Series HistorySoutheast is 9-2 all-time against Harris-Stowe, an NAIA Division I affiliate out of the American Midwest Conference. All but two of the meetings between these teams were played when the Redhawks were at the NCAA Division II level. Southeast beat the Hornets, 94-66, in the last matchup on Dec. 28, 2014. Â
Non-Division IHarris-Stowe is one of two non-Division I teams on Southeast's schedule this season. The Redhawks will also host Hannibal-LaGrange on Jan. 19. Southeast has won 22-straight games against non-Division I competition and hasn't lost to a non-Division I team since 2001-02 (51-62, vs. Birmingham Southern on Nov. 16).
Final Tune-UpThe Redhawks play host to Harris-Stowe in their final tune-up before Ohio Valley Conference play. Southeast opens its 16-game league slate at home against preseason-favorite Belmont on Dec. 31. The Redhawks then close out their three-game homestand against Tennessee State on Jan. 2.
Redhawks Win!Southeast snapped an 11-game losing streak when it beat Missouri State 78-74 on Dec. 22. The losing streak was the Redhawks fourth-longest in program history. It was Southeast's first win in Springfield, Missouri since Feb. 21, 1981.
Balanced ScoringAll five of starters scored double figures to key Southeast's latest win at Missouri State (Dec. 22).
Antonius Cleveland paved the way with a double-double 18 points and 10 rebounds, while
Isiah Jones and
Joel Angus III followed with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Trey Kellum and
Eric McGill each added 10, as well. It marked the first time the Redhawks had all five of their starters in double-digits since Dec. 1, 2013.
Jarekious Bradley (20), Lucas Nutt (18), Tyler Stone (14), Cleveland (13) and
Nino Johnson (10) scored double figures vs. Texas State.
Cleveland Gets First Double-DoubleAntonius Cleveland recorded his first double-double of the season when he registered 18 points and 10 rebounds at Missouri State (Dec. 22). Cleveland shot 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-12 at the free throw line, dished out four assists and had three steals in 35 minutes against the Bears. The double-double marked the third of Cleveland's career.
Calvin ReturnsAfter missing four-straight games with a hamstring injury,
Jamaal Calvin returned to score five points and grabbed three rebounds in 10 minutes off the bench at Missouri State (Dec. 22). Calvin made one field goal and three free throws. He buried all three of his free throws in the final 1:06 of the game, including two with 30 seconds left that gave the Redhawks a four-point cushion.
Road HeavyThe Redhawks played on the road for the eighth time when they visited Missouri State on Dec. 22. Southeast ended an 11-game losing skid in games outside of Cape Girardeau. Prior to their 78-84 win over the Bears, the Redhawks had dropped three Ohio Valley Conference road games and an OVC Tournament matchup with Morehead State in 2014-15 before starting this year 0-7 away from home. Southeast's last road win was a 70-64 victory at Austin Peay on Jan. 31, 2015.
Miles and MilesSoutheast travelled over 4,800 miles between stops at Dayton, Ohio, Evansville, Indiana, Huntsville, Alabama, Edinburg, Texas, Carbondale, Illinois, Memphis, Tennessee, Highland Heights, Kentucky and Springfield, Missouri. The Redhawks logged a total of 3,081 miles by charter bus alone.
Jones Doubles UpIsiah Jones scored double figures for the fourth-straight game and fifth time this season when he dropped in 17 at Missouri State (Dec. 22). Jones matched a career-high five 3-pointers, dished out three assists and collected three steals in 36 minutes against the Bears. He is one of three different players to score over 20 points in a game for the Redhawks this year. Jones has also buried multiple 3-pointers in four-straight contests.
Stealin' the ShowFreshman guard
Eric McGill collected a season-high four steals at Northern Kentucky (Dec. 19). McGill, who leads Southeast and ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference with 1.6 per game, has had two or more steals in four of his last five games.
Redhawk RewindSoutheast forced 16 turnovers and limited in-state rival Missouri State to only 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from 3-point range en route to picking up its first win of the season on Dec. 22. Things were tight between the Redhawks and Bears in the final 1:30, where neither team led by more than four points and it was a one possession game on four separate occasions.
Jamaal Calvin made two big free throws with 30 seconds remaining to give Southeast a four-point cushion before the Redhawks went on to secure their 78-74 victory.
Cleveland Clears 300 ReboundsAntonius Cleveland pulled down 10 rebounds at Missouri State (Dec. 22), and as a result, cleared 300 rebounds in his Southeast career. Cleveland now has 304 rebounds and is 16 steals away from reaching 100 in his career.
Shooting ImprovesSoutheast shot a season-high 48.3 percent from the field in each of its last two games. The Redhawks made 28-of-58 shots in a 79-69 loss at Northern Kentucky (Dec. 19) and 29-of-60 attempts in a 78-74 win at Missouri State (Dec. 22). Southeast also led MSU for all but 1:52 of that game.
