Basketball is Here
The Redhawks begin their 109th season of basketball when they travel to Dayton this week. This year is Southeast's 25th as an NCAA Division I program. The Redhawks moved to the Division I ranks in 1991-92. Southeast is 292-401 (.421) with eight winning seasons, one Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title, one OVC Tournament crown and one NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level.

Series History
Southeast and Dayton meet for the first time Friday. The Flyers are the third Atlantic 10 team the Redhawks face in their program's history. Southeast is 4-10 all-time against the Atlantic 10. The Redhawks own a 4-9 record against in-state rival Saint Louis and a 0-1 mark against St. Bonaventure.

Rick Ray Era Begins
Southeast begins a new era under the direction of head coach Rick Ray. Ray was hired as the program's 20th head coach on Apr. 13, 2015. He comes to Cape Girardeau after spending the last three years as head coach at Southeastern Conference member Mississippi State. Ray is one of four new head coaches in the Ohio Valley Conference, joining SIU Edwardsville's Jon Harris, Murray State's Matt McMahon and Eastern Kentucky's Dan McHale.

Season-Openers
The Redhawks are 9-15 in season-opening games since moving to the NCAA Division I ranks in 1991-92. Southeast opens its season on the road for the 10th-straight year and 14th time in its NCAA Division I era. The Redhawks lost nine consecutive season-opening games and last started a season with a win in 2005-06 (59-56, vs. Truman State).

Redhawks Roster
The Redhawks return two starters in guards Antonius Cleveland and Isiah Jones. Southeast's 13-man roster also consists of six newcomers, including five freshmen.

Current Streaks
Senior guard Isiah Jones scored double figures in six-straight games dating back to Feb. 12, 2015. Junior guard Antonius Cleveland enters the year with a streak of 30-consecutive starts. He was one of two Redhawks to start every game a year ago.

Road Warriors
Southeast starts the 2015-16 season with six of its first seven games outside of Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks open with a four-game road trip, visiting Dayton (Nov. 13), Evansville (Nov. 15), Alabama A&M (Nov. 19) and Texas-Rio Grande Valley (Nov. 24). Southeast, which has only one home game in November, also heads to regional rival Southern Illinois (Dec. 2) and Memphis (Dec. 5) during that rugged stretch.

Tough Place to Play
UD Arena is the all-time leader with 109 NCAA Tournament games hosted. The University of Dayton is riding a 15-year streak, including four years (2001, 2006, 2009, 2013) in which it hosted the tournament's opening round game(s) and the next two rounds. The Flyers finished 17-0 at home last season. Dayton owns 22-game home winning streak, currently the seventh-longest home winning streak in the NCAA. UD is 53-12 at home under coach Archie Miller.

Cleveland Named Preseason All-OVC
Junior guard Antonius Cleveland is Southeast's only Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selection. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Cleveland garnered the honor for the first time in his career. He shot 47.2 percent from the field and averaged 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 30 starts a year ago. Cleveland ranked 14th in the OVC in steals with 1.3 per game. Southeast was one of seven different schools represented on the 2015-16 OVC Preseason Men's Basketball team, released on Oct. 20.

On Guard
The bulk of Southeast's returning experience lies in the backcourt and on the perimeter this season. Marcus Wallace and Jamaal Calvin, both capable of starting at the point, saw a lot of playing time a year ago. Wallace appeared in 29 games and made two starts, averaging just under five points per game (4.9) as a true freshman. He shot 47 percent from the field, ranked third on the team with 35 steals and secured two Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week awards. Calvin played in 27 games and started seven contests in his first year as a scholarship player. He ranked third on the team with 23 three-pointers made and missed just four times at the free throw line (19-of-23). Returning starters Antonius Cleveland and Isiah Jones are back on the perimeter. Cleveland (10.8 ppg) and Jones (9.8 ppg) ranked second and fourth on the team in scoring last season, respectively. Jones is also the Redhawks top 3-point shooter. He led the team and ranked sixth in the OVC with 65 threes. Walk-on J.T. Jones and Ladarius Coleman also logged minutes on the wing a year ago.

New Faces
The biggest question mark for Southeast is its frontcourt. Several new faces, including juniors Trey Kellum (6-7, 215) and Joel Angus III (6-7, 215), and freshmen Jaylin Stewart (6-7, 210), Tony Anderson (6-9, 230) and Kyle Gullett (6-6, 205) are the Redhawks front line guys. Kellum is the only one of the group with previous NCAA Division I experience. He sat out the 2014-15 season due to NCAA Division I transfer regulartions after playing two years at Florida A&M. Returnee LaDarius Coleman will also be in the mix.

Ohio Ties
True freshman Tony Anderson's first game in a Southeast uniform will be in his home state. Anderson, the tallest player on this year's roster standing at 6'9", joined the Redhawks from Groveport Madison High School which is located on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio. First-year assistant coach Chris Moore also has a connection to the Buckeye State. Moore spent the last five years at Wright State University in Dayton. The Raiders averaged 17.5 wins per season and made a pair of postseason appearances with Moore on their coaching staff.

Exhibition Recap
Southeast used a big second half to pull away from NCAA Division II Missouri S&T in a 93-64 exhibition win Nov. 7 at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks, who trailed 41-40 at halftime, shot 60 percent (21-of-35) from the field and outscored S&T, 53-23, in the game's final 20 minutes. Marcus Wallace and Trey Kellum paved the way with 15 points each, while Antonius Cleveland followed with 13. Wallace, who was limited to five minutes after committing three fouls in the first half, scored 14 of his points in the second stanza. It was Southeast's only exhibition contest of the preseason.

Calvin Out for Four Games
Junior guard Jamaal Calvin will miss four games, including Southeast's exhibition matchup with Missouri S&T (Nov. 7), due to violation of departmental policies and procedures. Calvin returns from his suspension when the Redhawks travel to Texas Rio Grande Valley on Nov. 24.

Angus III Cleared
Junior forward Joel Angus III was cleared to practice this week after a concussion sidelined him for the Redhawks exhibition game vs. Missouri S&T (Nov. 7). Angus III transferred to Southeast from Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York, where he led the Mustangs in scoring (15.4 ppg), rebounding (8.5 rpg), minutes (32.3 mpg) and field goal percentage (.550) last season. He was the first to sign a National Letter of Intent under Rick Ray a little over a month after Ray was hired as Southeast's head coach.

Eleven in Action
Eleven of the Ohio Valley Conference schools will be in action on Friday, Nov. 13. Southeast, Jacksonville State (at Central Michigan), Eastern Illinois (at Indiana), Tennessee State (at Loyola (Md.), Austin Peay (at Vanderbilt),  UT Martin (at Oklahoma State) and Belmont (at Marquette) all hit the road for their season-openers. Meanwhile, Eastern Kentucky (vs. Coppin State), Morehead State (vs. Cincinnati Christian), Murray State (vs. Harris-Stowe) and SIU Edwardsville (vs. Arkansas State) open the year at home.

Redhawks Picked Fourth in OVC West
Southeast was picked to finish fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division, the league announced during its annual media day on Oct. 20. The Redhawks tallied 72 points in the overall voting by OVC head coaches and sports information directors. Murray State, the defending regular-season champion, secured 15 of the 24 first-place votes and 125 points as this year's West Division favorite, while UT Martin (9 first-place votes, 115 pts.) and Eastern Illinois (88 pts.) were also picked ahead of the Redhawks. Austin Peay (57 pts.) and SIU Edwardsville (35 pts.) closed out the West. Belmont, the defending OVC Tournament champion, was picked as the overall 2015-16 favorite. The Bruins earned 22 of 24 first-place votes and were an overwhelming favorite to win the East Division. Belmont, which received 132 points, finished first in the East in each of the first three years of divisional play. Morehead State (1 first-place vote, 105 pts.), Eastern Kentucky (1 first-place vote, 88 pts.), Tennessee Tech (67 pts.), Jacksonville State (52 pts.) and Tennessee State (48 pts.) completed the East Division. Belmont senior Craig Bradshaw was named the OVC Preseason Player of the Year.

About Dayton
Dayton, which went 27-9 overall and advanced to the third round of last year's NCAA Tournament, is the 2015-16 Preseason Atlantic 10 favorite. Preseason Third-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection Kendall Pollard leads the Flyers. Pollard was the 2015 A-10 Chris Daniels Most Improved Player Award winner. He is one of three returning starters along with Kyle Davis and Scoochie Smith. The Flyers received votes in this year's preseason USA Today and Associated Press Top 25 Polls.

Up Next
Southeast plays its second game in three days when it visits Evansville on Nov. 15. That game will air on ESPN3 and WatchESPN. UE, which won the 2015 CollegeInsider.com Tournament,  was picked second in this year's Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll.
