CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team dropped an 11-inning contest to the Morehead State (10-11, 3-4 OVC) Eagles Friday evening, 9-8. The Redhawks are no longer perfect in Ohio Valley Conference play as they fall to 13-8 overall, 6-1 in league play.

This was Southeast's first extra inning game of the 2014 season.

"We have a group that is resilient and they just never give up as they continued to battle the whole game," said head coach Steve Bieser. "We ran in to a pretty good pitcher in the late innings but I have to give our guys credit as they never gave up tonight. Honestly, Morehead had a little bit better of a team tonight."

With runners on second and third and Cole Bieser at the plate, Bieser hit a high, fly ball to center that the center fielder made a tumbling catch on. Both runners (Branden Boggetto, Nolan Fisher) scored on the play to extend the lead to 3-0 in the third inning.

Morehead added to the lead the following inning with a two-RBI triple from Tyler Bigler; 7-4 Eagles after the top of the seventh.

Southeast brought the game within one in the bottom of the inning. With Jason Blum and Clayton Evans on second and third, respectively, and Gibson at the plate, the shortstop botched the throw on a routine groundout, allowing both runs to score and Gibson to reach. 7-6 after eight.

The Redhawks tied the game in the eighth with an RBI single from Boggetto to score John Logan Zink, a pinch runner.

Morehead then scored one run in the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout.

Down 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth, the Redhawks rallied to tie the game. Blum hit a leadoff single to get speed on the bases then advanced to second on a sac bunt from Bieser.
