MARION, Ill. — Southeast Missouri Baseball (39-18) fell to Southern Indiana (29-28) with a final score of 5-3 on Thursday at Mt. Dew Park. The Redhawks scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning, but Southern Indiana responded with four runs across the eighth and ninth innings to secure the win.
Southern Indiana took an early lead in the first inning when Khi Holiday singled and advanced to third on a fielding error before scoring on Patrick McLellan's sacrifice fly. Southern Indiana led 1-0 through the first inning.
The Redhawks responded in the fifth inning.
Ryan Lopetegui walked and advanced to third on
Brooks Kettering's single.
Dakota Joggerst hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Lopetegui.
Carson Schrack followed with a two-run homer, bringing home Kettering, to give Southeast Missouri a 3-1 lead after five innings.
Southern Indiana tied the game in the eighth inning. Micajah Wall and Clayton Slack started with singles, and Parker Martin doubled down the left field line, driving in both runners. The score was 3-3 through eight innings.
In the ninth inning, Southern Indiana loaded the bases, and Martin's single to right center brought in two runs, putting Southern Indiana ahead 5-3. SEMO could not score in the bottom of the ninth, resulting in a final score of Southern Indiana 5, Southeast Missouri 3.
