Biography

2013: Started 52 games in 2013, all but one in left field... Hit for an impressive .332 batting average with 70 hits on the season... Knocked in 31 RBI and slugged three home runs over the fence... Earned 21 walks and was hit by a pitch five times... Scored a team-high four runs against Eastern Illinois (4/20) and knocked in five RBI in the same game... Averaged 1.35 hits per game, a team-best... Recorded a total of 23 multiple hit games and nine multiple RBI games last season... Strung together the longest hitting streak on the team with 17 games... Southeast Scholar Athlete and member of the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. 

2012: Was a First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference Selection… Was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week and CollegeBaseballInsider.com National Player of the Week on May 2… Named OVC Player of the Week on April 30… Appeared in 49 games with 46 starts… Recorded a 29 game hitting streak from March 13 to April 29… Was third on the Redhawks in hitting with a .338 batting average ranking ninth in the OVC… Recorded 66 hits on the season with 12 doubles a team-high three triples and seven home runs… Recorded 38 RBI and 32 runs scored as he recorded 31 RBI in OVC play ranking third in the league during conference play… Recorded 19 multi-hit contests… Recorded a hit in 41 of his 49 games played… Recorded 10 hits with 13 RBI and six runs scored in a weekend series at UT Martin from April 27-29 recording a career-high four hits in the first and third games of the series… In the first game of the series at UT Martin he tied a school recorded with three doubles… In the third game of the series he recorded seven RBI with a career-high two home runs… Was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored at Eastern Illinois on March 31.

2011: Appeared in one game against Southern Illinois on April 26.

2010: Derek served as the backup quarterback on the football team... The Redhawks won a school record nine consecutive games and finished with a final national ranking of 11.
