CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team fell to Austin Peay 9-4 in their series opener Friday evening at Capaha Field. Governor starter Lee Ridenhour (6-0) went seven scoreless innings allowing six hits.
“It was a tough game and we just couldn't get in rhythm,” said head coach

Junior
Derek Gibson extended his hitting streak to 15-games as he led the Redhawks going 3-for-5 on the night.
Dalton Hewitt added a pair of hits and a walk and runs scored for Southeast.
“Derek is finding ways to get hits and keep rolling along,” said Bieser.
The Redahwks fell to 17-18 on the season and 9-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference with the loss as Austin Peay moves to 26-9 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
Neither team could get on the board until the top of the fifth inning as the Governors broke through with two runs. The Govs got on the board on an error on a fielder's choice. APSU added their second run on a sacrifice fly from Reed Harper.
Austin Peay added to their lead with two more runs in the sixth inning as Jordan Hankins and Craig Massoni added RBI singles to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Govs added five runs in the seventh and eighth innings. A pair of two-run home runs from Rolando Gautier and Massoni highlighted the stretch.
The Redhawks got on the board with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Jason Blum added an RBI single to get the Redhawks on the board.
Cole Bieser followed with a two-run single up the middle to make it 9-3.
Matt Tellor drove in Bieser later in the frame with an RBI single down the left field line to make it 9-4, but the Redhawks could not tack on anymore runs as they fell 9-4.
Senior
Zack Smith (2-3) was tagged with the loss for the Redhawks going five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with six walks.
Massoni led the Govs offensively going 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to go along with a run scored.
The Redhawks will host their second Baseball Tailgate of the season on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. as Southeast takes on the Govs in game two of their weekend set.
