SEMO Tennis Begins Fall Season Friday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Southeast Missouri tennis team returns for the fall tournament season hosting the Second Annual Redhawk Fall Tournament Friday and Saturday at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
Redhawk Fall Invitational
There will be two teams competing at the John C. Bierk Redhawks Tennis Complex. Western Illinois and SEMO will compete both days. On Friday the doubles matches will start at 3 p.m. with the second matches at 4 p.m. The singles portion of the invitational will begin at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday there will be one doubles portion starting at 9 a.m. The singles matches on day two starts at 10 a.m. To wrap up the weekend, the final matches will be played at 2 p.m.
Meet the Squad
The Redhawks return five of the eight rostered athletes from the spring team. Returning to the team is Maja Bajorek, Juliette Demunck, Mia Mayerová, Yontha Tadoum, and Sofia Zemtsova. Bajorek was selected to the first team All-OVC and Mayerova was cited on the second team All-OVC.
There are four new arrivals to the Redhawks this fall. Freshmen Pien De Greef, Maria Drag, Michelle Huebner, and Chia-Lin Tsao. De Greef, who is a native to Holland, comes to the team with an ITF ranking of 1625. Drag is a native of Krakow, Poland. She is an 8.7 UTR and is ranked around 1100 in the world. Huebner and Tsao join the team as freshman after competing in junior matches and tournaments.
"The team this year is the closest it's been since I've been here" said Coach Brooks. "They're strong, and they show that on the court."

Head Coach Steve Brooks, who in his first season at the helm won the OVC regular season championship, returns for his third season. Prior to SEMO, Brooks gathered more than 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, including 15 at the NCAA Division I level.
When asked what he looks forward to most, Brooks answered, "I'm most excited to see if I can get to play in the style I want them to be in. I want to be a program that teams expect a real challenge against, not a probable win."

After the Redhawk Fall Invitational the team will travel to Evansville, Indiana for the OVC Fall Tournament September 25-27th. After that they will wrap up the fall season with the ITA Reginal tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio October 8-13th.
