Tennis Wins Big in Evansville, Secures ITA Masters Championship Appearance

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Southeast Missouri competed in the OVC Fall Tournament this weekend, capturing a Doubles Championship victory to advance to the ITA Masters Championship.
In attendance to the tournament were OVC teams including SEMO, Lindenwood. Bryant, SIUE, Western Illinois, and host Southern Indiana.
Day 1 - Friday
The teams played three flights of singles matches, and two flights of doubles matches on the first day of competition.
 In the first flight, SEMO won both matches, with Maja Bajorek and Maria Drag taking the wins. In the second flight, SEMO won two of three matches. Sofia Zemtsova and Yontha Tadoum added on to SEMO's victories.  Flight C included a win for the Redhawks from Michelle Huebner vs. Claire Meyer (Southern Indiana).
Flight A of the doubles ended with two wins out of six matches for the Redhawks. Doubles teams included Zemtsova/Huebner, Tadoum/De Greef, and Mayerova/Bajorek. Flight B resulted in one victory out of two matches for the Redhawks from Drag/Tsao. This victory secured the doubles team third place in the doubles championship.
Day 2 - Saturday
Day two of the tournament began with three singles matches for SEMO in Flight A, resulting in one win for Mia Mayerova. Flight B consisted of five matches, with three victories. Sofia Zemtsova and Yontha Tadoum secured the wins in Flight B. The Redhawks were three wins for four matches in Flight C, with wins from Michelle Huebner and Chia-Ling Tsao.
In the doubles matches, Flight A concluded with a victory for Mayerova/Bajorek, advancing them to the Championship match for the OVC Fall Tournament.

Day 3 – Sunday
Sofia Zemtsova competed against Ana Mitevska (Bryant) for the Flight B Championship match, earning her victory in the match. Michelle Huebner battled Marian Haynes (Southern Indiana) for Flight C's Championship, resulting in a draw.

In the doubles match, duo Mayerova/Bajorek fought against Ferrarini/Davidoff (USI) , ending with a victory in the Flight A Doubles Draw for the Redhawks.Â
With this victory in the doubles matches, SEMO has qualified for the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Ga., set for November 5th through to the 8th. This is the first time SEMO has qualified for the event in program history.Â
Looking ahead
The Redhawks will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, to compete in the ITA Regional Championship from October 8th through October 13th.
