Thrilling Tuesday
Southeast Missouri picked up an awesome victory on Tuesday night against longtime rival Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Illinois by a final score of 6-5. The Redhawks jumped on the Salukis early thanks to several defensive blunders from SIU and led 2-0 after the first two innings. SIU would get on the board with a walk in the third inning, but RHP Caden Kickhaefer came in and turned the Salukis away with back-to-back strikeouts with the bases loaded. CF Caleb Klein hit his fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning, a two-run blast that made it 4-1 SEMO after four innings. SIU would take the lead in the sixth with one swing as a pinch-hit grand slam left the park to make it 5-4 SIU after six. After a leadoff double from Ryan Lopetegui, short stop Andrew Ramirez roped an RBI single into center field to tie the game at 5-5 as the game would be tied going to the ninth inning. Catcher Tank Sims destroyed a ball into the right center field gap that scored Ramirez all the way from first base to give SEMO a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth inning. LHP Jackson Kranawetter came on and picked up his sixth save of the season to give SEMO its 23rd win of 2026.
