EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Southeast Missouri swept the men's and women's Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday.
SEMO won both the men's and women's OVC outdoor titles for the fifth time in program history and first since 2014. The Redhawk men are OVC outdoor champions for the second-straight season.
On the men's side SEMO entered the final day of competition with a 70-point (124-54) lead over Little Rock, but the Trojans pulled to within one with their performance in the triple jump.
With the 4x400 still remaining, the Redhawks relay team of
Connor Moore,
Markeith Crawford,
Brenden Parham and
Terrico Garrett stepped up to clinch the title with a first-place time of 3:13.00. The final event of the day was enough to give SEMO a two-point victory over LR, 216-214. The Trojans are in their first year as a member of the OVC.
Meanwhile, the SEMO women's team dominated with a 225-139.5 advantage over LR. The Redhawks claimed their 11
th outdoor championship in program history and second in three years.
Great Finishes
SEMO tallied seven first-place finishes, 25 top-three showings and 12 new personal bests during its 2023 title runs.
Specialty Awards
Clara Billing was named OVC Female Freshman of the Year, Brianna Miles claimed OVC Female Track Athlete of the Year,
Dylan Clark was tabbed OVC Male Field Athlete of the Year and
Eric Crumpecker won both the OVC men's and women's outdoor Coach of the Year honors.
New PRs
Moore and Parham both achieved new personal records in the men's 400-meter. Moore finished in sixth place with a run of 48.03 and Parham placed seventh (48.30).
In the women's 100-meter hurdles Billing placed third and ran a time of 14.23 which was fast enough for a new PR.
Megan Aubuchon also recorded a new PR in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Aubuchon finished in seventh place and ran a time of 14.55.
Brianna Payton and
Layla Fliege both achieved new personal bests finishing in 4:40.08 (7th) and 4:44.67 (8th) in the women's 1500.
Crawford finished the 800-meter race in 1:53.78 for sixth and a new PR.
Daja Gordon achieved a new PR and won a bronze medal in the 200-meter (24.51).
Megan Deimeke, Bailie Hux, and
Makenzie Williams all earned new PR's in the shot put. Deimeke got the bronze medal throwing for the distance of 44' 11" (13.69m), Hux had a mark of 43' 11.5" (13.40m) placing fourth, and Williams threw for 41' 1" (12.52m).
In the men's high jump Luke Hatfield Jackson recorded a new PR with a jump of 49' 10.75" (15.21m) for the silver medal.
Second to None
Dylan Clark won the shot put with a throw of 58' 2.5" (17.74m)
Katie Wegmann crossed the finish line at 4:30.68 in the women's 1500 to stand alone at the top of the podium.
Garrett grabbed the gold medal in the men's 800-meter. The Missouri native ran a time of 1:50.64.
Taylor Fox, the junior from Mt. Zion, Illinois, ran the 800 in 2:08.38 for first place while gettng a new personal best along the way.
Breanna Miles claimed gold and a new personal best with a 54.50 mark in the women's 400-meter.
In the women's 400-meter hurdles,
Laila Hardin established a new personal best finishing first with a time of 59.36.
Podium Finishes
Serena Williams took the silver medal in the women's triple jump at 11.85m.

Leanza Dwaah,
Daja Gordon, and Miles secured the silver medal in the women's 4x100 relay.
In the men's high jump Luke Hatfield Jackson placed second with a height of 6' 11" (2.11m).
The SEMO 4x100-meter relay team of Moore, Parham, Chris Johnson and Brema claimed third with a time of 41.34.
Marshall Swadley and
Clay Alewelt took second (56' 6.25") and third (54' 6.75"), respectively.
In the women's 1500,
Taylor Fox's time of 4:30.82 was good for second.
Leanza Dwaah placed second and crossed the finish line in 11.96 in the women's 100-meter.
Brock Wood picked up the bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.63.
Katie Wegmann placed second in the women's 800 with her time of 2:10.54.
Miles won the silver medal after she finished the 200-meter race in 23.98.
Nick Cimmarusti earned the silver medal in the men's 5000 (14:37.26).
In the women's 5000-meter,
Hannah Eastman clocked a time of 17:34.91 en route to her second-place finish.
The SEMO women's 4x400-meter relay team of Miles,
Erika Mellor, Dwaah and Hardin finished in second place with a time of 3:46.76.
