Men's & Women's Track & Field Finish First at 2023 Joey Haines Invite

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Men's and Women's Track & Field finished dominated the Joey Haynes invite having both finish in first place. The Redhawks also finished their home opener with 13 first place finishes and 28 top three finishes.
 
The Women's team finished in first with 192.5 total points, 70.5 points ahead of Murray State in second.
 
The Men's team tallied 183 total points finishing in first ahead of Southern Illinois with 100 points.
 
Grabbing the Gold 
Katie Wegmann crossed the line at 4:28.57 to wear the gold in the women's 1500-meter.
 
Justin Splitt stood atop the podium in the men's 1500, finishing with a time of 4:03.52.
 
In the men's 800-meters, Terrico Garrett finished with the gold medal crossing the line at 1:52.89.
 
Clara Billing took home the gold in the women's 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.68. Billing also took first place in the women's pole vault (3.80m).
 
Laila Hardin finishes in first, with a time of 58.35 in the women's 400-meter. Hardin also picked up the gold medal in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.27.
 
The women's 800-meter saw Madelyn Gray finish on top of the podium with a dash of 2:12.59.
 
Aarion Jackson placed first in the men's triple jump with a jump of 13.26m.
 
Hannah Eastman finished in first with a time of 17:13.87 in the women's 5000-meter. 
 
In the men's 5000-meter, Nick Cimmarusti placed first with a run of 14:43.11.
 
Jaden Kight finished with a throw of 41.26m for a first-place finish in the women's javelin.
 
Chris Johnson, Mark Crawford, Brenden Parham, and Terrico Garrett placed first as a team in the men's 4x400-meter relay. They finished in 3:19.15. 
 
Top Three Placers
The 4x100 team of Serena Williams, Breanna Miles, Leanza Dwaah, and Daja Gordon took third, crossing the line at 46.99.
 
Sophie Dubis and Serena Williams tie for the bronze medal (1.59m) in the women's high jump.
 
Taylor Fox finished in 4:40.70 in the women's 1500-meter for second.
 
In the women's 200-meters, Leanza Dwaah finished in 24.68 and for second place. 
 
Breanna Miles crossed the line at 58.35 for third in the women's 400-meter dash.
 
In the men's pole vault, Tanner Koontz placed third with a height of 4.45m.
 
Clay Alewelt finished with the bronze medal in the men's discus throw with a mark of 53.57m
 
Chris Johnson finished with two silver medals on the day. He took second in both men's long jump (7.29m) and in the 200-meter crossing the line in 22.11.
 
The men's shot put saw Dylan Clark place third with a throw of 16.26m.
 
Katie Wegmann picked up a silver medal in the women's 5000-meter finishing in 17:18.76.
 
The women's 4x400 relay team of Breanna Miles, Erika Mellor, Madelyn Gray, and Taylor Fox placed second with a time of 3:56.79.
 
Marysa Flieg finished in second in the javelin with a throw of 39.17m.
 
The Redhawk pair of Josiah Kilgore and Justin Breault finished with the silver and bronze medal in the men's javelin. Kilgore threw for (61.02m) and Breault (60.82m). 
 
Noteworthy Achievements
In the men's discus throw Dylan Clark placed fifth. Clark threw for 50.72m.
 
Megan Deimeke placed fourth with a mark of 12.55m in the women's shot put.
 
Mark Crawford finished in 1:56.11 in the men's 800-meter placing fourth. 
 
In the men's pole vault Colin Beers finished in fourth getting to the height of 4.45m. Isaac Readnour got to the height of 4.30m (5th).
 
In the women's triple jump Serena Williams placed fourth (11.62m).
 
The men's 4x400 relay team of Connor Moore, Momah Brema, Louis Primeau, and Justin Splitt placed fifth with a time of 3:24.91. 
 
Thursday Results
In the men's hammer, Parker Feuerborn placed second, throwing for 64.85m, Marshall Swadley third (3.57m), Dylan Clark fourth (60.15m), and Clay Alewelt sixth (57.40m).
 
Makenzie Williams and Megan Deimeke finished fourth and fifth with throws of 58' 02" and 54' 02" in the women's hammer throw.
 
Looking Ahead
The Redhawks will be on the road for the rest of the season, as they head to Oxford, Miss. for the Joe Walker Invite. Competition is slated to begin next Friday and Saturday, April 7 - 8th.
