Series History
Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech meet for the 57th time Saturday. TTU holds a 37-19 lead in the all-time series. SEMO goes for the season sweep of the Golden Eagles after beating them, 84-77, in a double overtme thriller on Jan. 21 at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks are looking to end a five-game losing streak in Cookeville. SEMO's last win there was on Jan. 18, 2014 (83-74).
How Sweep it Is
The Redhawks chalked up their first series sweep of an Ohio Valley Conference opponent when they outlasted Little Rock in a high scoring 99-98 affair Thursday. Southeast Missouri also defeated the Trojans, 74-68, in Little Rock on Jan. 7. It was that win which actually jumpstarted SEMO's hot stretch of seven victories in the last eight contests.
Harris Approaching 1,000 Points
Chris Harris, Southeast Missouri's second-leading scorer with 13.7 points per game this season, is 62 away from reaching 1,000 in his career. Harris presently has 938 points and an 11.7 ppg average as a Redhawk. Harris is on pace to become the 25th member of SEMO's 1,000-point club.
He Did That Twice?!!
For the second time this season, Phillip Russell tied Southeast Missouri's NCAA Division I single-game scoring record of 37 points. Russell recently dropped in 37 points and had a career-high 10 assists for only the second double- double of his career vs. Little Rock (Feb. 2). He shot 9-of-16 from the field, buried four 3-pointers and made 15-of-18 free throws. Russell averaged a point per minute in his 37 minutes of action.
30-Point Threat
Phillip Russell scored 30 or more points for an Ohio Valley Conference high third time this season when he finished with 37 against Little Rock (Feb. 2). Russell has scored 30 or more in three of his last five starts. He also dropped in 37 at Morehead State (Jan. 14) and 30 vs. Tennessee State (Jan. 26). Russell scored 30 or more points a total of four times in his career.
Scoring in Bunches
Phillip Russell scored over 20 points a total of eight times this season. Three of his starts resulted in 30 or more points. Russell scored double figures in 22 of his 23 games. He has fourteen 20-plus point games in his career. Additionally, Russell registered the first point-assist double-double of his career with 37 points and 10 assists vs. Little Rock (Feb. 2). Overall, it was his second double-double in a Redhawk uniform.
New Season-Highs
Southeast Missouri established new season-highs in points and 3-pointers made in its win over Little Rock (Feb. 2). SEMO scored 99 points and drained 14 three-pointers. The Redhawks went over 90 points in a game for the fourth time this season and made 10 or more threes for the eight time.
Co-OVC Leaders
What was once a six-way tie for first is now down to two. Southeast Missouri and Morehead State share the top spot in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. SEMO and MSU are both 8-3 entering the weekend. The Redhawks beat MSU, 91-86, in Morehead on Jan. 14, and will face the Eagles again Feb. 11.
What a Month!
The Redhawks wrapped up January with a 6-2 record after taking down Eastern Illinois (Jan. 28), 79-68, on the road. Southeast Missouri's strong January push put the Redhawks in a first-place tie at the top of the Ohio Valley Conference standings. SEMO scored over 80 points five times and went 3-1 on the road in January contests. It is the best January record in three years under Head Coach Brad Korn. SEMO has finished with a .500 or winning record in January each of Korn's first three seasons as the Redhawks head coach.
Season-Long Winning Streak
The Redhawks carry a season-long four-game winning streak to Tennessee Tech Saturday. One more win and Southeast Missouri will be on a five-game winning streak for the first time since 2013-14.
8-3 in the OVC
Southeast Missouri is 8-3 with seven games left this season. The Redhawks are working toward a winning record in OVC play for the first time since 2016-17 (9-7). SEMO is 25-23 in league play with Korn at the helm.
Late Season Surge
With seven games left in its Ohio Valley Conference season, Southeast Missouri is in the middle of a strong surge. SEMO has heated up to win eight of its last 10 games. Two more victories will secure the Redhawks first OVC winning record since 2016-17 (9-7).
What's Left
After Saturday's contest, Southeast Missouri hits the road to face Tennessee State (Feb. 9). The Redhawks then host Morehead State (Feb. 11), Eastern Illinois (Feb. 16) and Southern Indiana (Feb. 18) in their final home games before closing out the regular-season at Lindenwood (Feb. 23) and SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 25). USI (6-4), TTU (6-4) and SIUE (5-5) are close behind SEMO in the standings.
Four in Double Figures
Phillip Russell, Chris Harris, Josh Earley and Dylan Branson all scored double figures in Southeast Missouri's tight 99-98 win over Little Rock (Feb. 2). Russell paved the way with 37 points and 10 assists. Harris and Earley followed with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Branson chipped in 11 points. It was the second-straight game where SEMO had four double-digit scorers.
Another Road Win
Southeast Missouri picked up its third- straight road win with a 79-68 victory at Eastern Illinois (Jan. 28). SEMO won three-straight Ohio Valley Conference road games for the first time since 2012-13. The Redhawks now have five true road wins this season. One more will give Brad Korn his most in a season as SEMO's head coach.
Big Lift Larson
Adam Larson drained three 3-pointers and had three blocks in his recent 11-point effort at Eastern Illinois (Jan. 28). Larson finished with four field goals made in 21 minutes. He made three 3-pointers and scored nine points vs. Little Rock (Feb. 2). Larson scored double figures five times this year.
High Scoring Redhawks
The Redhawks scored over 80 points in eight of their 11 Ohio Valley Conference games. Southeast Missouri surpassed 90 points in four of its last six games with a 92-75 win over Tennessee State (Jan. 26), 94-71 win vs. Lindenwood (Jan. 12), 91-86 victory at Morehead State (Jan. 14) and a 99-98 win over Little Rock (Feb. 2). SEMO leads the OVC with 83.5 points per game and a +4.5 scoring margin in league play.
Top of the OVC
Southeast Missouri leads the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring (83.6 ppg), scoring margin (+4.5), assists (15.9 apg) and turnover margin (+3.09) in league games. SEMO scored over 80 points in eight of its OVC contests. The Redhawks are also forcing a league-high 15.2 turnovers a game in OVC action.
About Tennessee Tech
Tennessee Tech has lost four of its last five games after Southeast Missouri ended the Golden Eagles' five-game winning streak on Jan. 21. SEMO beat TTU, 84-77, in double overtime at the Show Me Center. The Golden Eagles suffered back-to-back losses to Little Rock (91-89, Jan. 19) and Morehead State (64-45, Feb. 2). Jaylen Sebree leads TTU with 14.2 points per game.
Harris is Rolling
Chris Harris is second on the team in scoring with 13.7 points per game through 23 games and 22 starts. He scored double figures in 13 of his last 14 contests and leads the Redhawks with 52 career double-digit scoring games.
Winning the Second Half
For the 14th time this season, Southeast Missouri won the second half when it outscored Little Rock, 58-48, on Jan. 28. SEMO is 11-3 in games where it outscores its opponent in the final 20 minutes. The Redhawks 58 points vs. Little Rock are their most in a second half through 24 games this year.
10 or More 3-Pointers
The Redhawks matched a season-high 13 three-pointers in their 87-82 loss to UT Martin (Jan. 5). Southeast Missouri has made 10 or more 3-pointers in eight games this year. SEMO is third in the Ohio Valley Conference with 307 threes through 24 games.
3-Pointer Streaks
Chris Harris has made a 3-pointer in 25-straight games dating back to the 2021-22 season. Phillip Russell drained a 3-pointer in 23-straight contests. Russell leads Southeast Missouri with 60 three-pointers, while Harris follows with 46. Russell and Harris have accounted for 51.2 percent of SEMO's 207 made threes this year.
