Redhawks Shutout Central Arkansas for First Win of the Season

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (1-1) picked up its first win of the season with a dominating 7-0 victory over Central Arkansas (0-1) Friday morning at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
SEMO and UCA hooked up in an early 8 a.m., CT matchup. The Redhawks faced the Bears for the second time after opening their fall campaign at the UCA Invitational in Conway, Arkansas.
After dropping Thursday's season-opener to Missouri, SEMO wasted no time regrouping against the Bears.
Romana Tarajova and Lera Valeeva defeated Jaeun Lee and Nicole Ross by a score of 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and Vivian Lai and Ksenia Shikanova downed Ting-An Chen and Konomi Miyakawa, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot to secure the Redhawks first point of the spring.
SEMO did not give up a point the rest of the way going 6-0 in singles competition.
At the top of the Redhawks lineup, Tarajova beat Myakawa, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Daniela Hlacikova took care of Sumomo Hamange with a 6-2, 6-2, victory and Shikanova came back to defeate Lee, 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 two and three singles positions, respectively. Freshman Trinity Calinescu recorded her first career dual singles win over Nanoka Kazama, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
Meanwhile, Lai beat Chen, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 5 and Teona Velkoska retired Ross, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6. Tarajova's win marked SEMO's first singles victory of the spring.
SEMO upended UCA for the second-straight season.
The Redhawks return to action when they face former Ohio Valley Conference members Austin Peay (Feb. 4) and Murray State (Feb. 5) in Kentucky.
