EUGENE, Ore. – Logan Blomquist, the 2022 NCAA Hammer Throw National Champion, represented Southeast Missouri track & field in the hammer throw Saturday afternoon at the 2022 Toyota USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships held at Hayward Field. Blomquist finished 13th out of 18 competitors in hammer throw at his first career USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
Blomquist, the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Year and Hammer Champion, posted consecutive throws of 232-4 (70.83m) in the first and second rounds Saturday.
Daniel Haugh of Throw1Deep Club won the 2022 Toyota USA Track & Field Outdoor Hammer Throw Championship with a personal best 263-1 (80.18m) on his first try Saturday.
Blomquist, a Pleasant Hill, Missouri, native, previously won the 2022 NCAA Hammer Throw National Championship with a career-best and SEMO program-best mark of 240-8 (73.37m) on his sixth and final attempt on June 8 in Eugene, Oregon, for U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) First-Team All-America laurels.
Blomquist registered a mark of 229-4 (69.91) to capture the 2022 NCAA West Preliminary Championship in hammer throw, May 25 at the John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
He secured Gold in the 2022 OVC Hammer competition with 237-3 (72.31m) and led the NCAA (first in NCAA West Region) this season with a throw of 240-1 (73.18) set at the Memphis Tiger Invitational (April 29-30).
In 2022, Blomquist earned 10 hammer throw titles and was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week three times. He also won the 2022 OVC Shot Put title and earned Bronze in the Discus at the league Championship.
He was named to the 2021-22 Academic All-America® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday for his stellar 2022 outdoor season as a Redhawk.
