FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Nicole Humphreys and
Marysa Flieg both competed in the second day of the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminary Thursday at the John McDonnell Field. Humphreys finished 18th in the hammer throw while Flieg was 33rd in the javelin competition.
Humphreys and Flieg both competed in their first-ever NCAA West Preliminary Thursday.
Humphreys, the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Female Co-Field Athlete of the Year and Hammer Silver Medalist, posted a distance of 198-11 (60.62m) on her third attempt for 18th overall.
She also had throws of 196-11 (60.03m) and 198-4 (60.47m) in the first two rounds, respectively, Thursday.
Humphreys, a Jackson, Missouri, native, ranked 23rd in the NCAA West Region with a SEMO program-best distance of 204-2 (62.24m) that she most recently improved upon at the 2022 OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
California's Camryn Rogers won the event Thursday with a feat of 250-10 (76.46m) to lead the 12 qualifiers from the 2022 NCAA West Preliminary.
Flieg finished 33rd out of 48 competitors Thursday. The 2022 OVC Female Co-Freshman of the Year and Javelin Champion posted a mark of 144-7 (44.07m) on her third and final attempt.
She also had a throw of 137-5 (41.8m) in the first round.
Flieg, a Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, native, ranked 25th in the NCAA West Region for the field event with a throw of 161-4 (49.18m). In SEMO history, she is third all-time for Javelin.
Ashton Riner of Brigham Young took first in the event with 187-10 (57.25m) to lead the 12 qualifiers for the National Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
Luke Hatfield-Jackson will compete in the high jump on Friday at 2:30 p.m., CT at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminary. The 2022 OVC High Jump Champion has cleared 7-0.25 (2.14m) in 2022 which ranks 25th in the NCAA West Region this season.
