TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Southeast Missouri track & field concluded its 2021 outdoor regular-season with a productive outing at Indiana State's Pacesetter Sports Invitational Friday at the Gibson Track & Field Complex.
Kendall Long,
Justin Breault and
Katie Wegmann all won individual event titles in the tune-up meet ahead of the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Charleston, Illinois, May 13-15.
Long secured first in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:02.09 Friday.
Breault won the men's javelin competition with a distance of 184-10 (56.33m).
Josh Kile finished sixth, registering a mark of 148-2 (45.17m).
Wegmann also captured first overall in the 800 meter Invitational evening race in 2:11.79.
Claire Morrill completed the race in 2:15.99 (eighth).
Nicole Humphreys registered a personal-best hammer mark of 178-2 (54.30m) in her third attempt Friday for fourth overall at the meet. She ranks fifth all-time in SEMO program history for the event.
In the OVC, Humphreys is third for hammer in 2021.
Makenzie Williams also added a throw of 145-10 (44.46m, 15th).
Jaden Kight took fourth in the women's javelin with a distance of 124-7 (37.98m).
Tayler Gudde added a mark of 91-10 (28.0m, 10th).
Carli Knott finished fourth in the 1,500 meter Invitational section during the evening with a time of 4:33.21.
Dylan Clark placed fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 187-2 (57.04m).
Logan Blomquist won hammer Friday, notching a feat of 225-11 (68.86m), as an unattached competitor. Blomquist has now topped the leaderboard four times in 2021 as an unattached athlete after setting a personal-best 226-0 (68.90m), last weekend at the Kentucky Invitational.
Justin Splitt led the Redhawk men in the 800 meters, crossing the finish in a time of 1:57.14 (17th).
Byron Sowerby followed in 1:57.23 (18th) and
Griffin Bailey finished in 2:00.28 (29th).
Brianna Payton concluded the women's race in 2:17.47 for ninth at the Invitational.
Humphreys posted a shot put distance of 40-4 (12.29m, 12th).
Makenzie Williams also represented the Redhawk women in the field event, compiling a mark of 37-0.25 (11.28m, 16th).
Humphreys also had a discus finish of 128-8 (39.21m, 12th) on her first of three attempts.
On the men's side,
Clay Alewelt led the Redhawks with a distance of 155-5 (47.38m) to take sixth.
Clark and Alewelt also went eighth and ninth in the shot put with marks of 49-0.75 (14.95m) and 48-3.50 (14.72m), respectively.
The SEMO men's 4x400 meter relay team of Bailey,
Austin Perkins, Splitt and Sowerby, concluded the race in 3:30.84 for fifth.
SEMO will next compete in the 2021 OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Charleston, Illinois, May 13-15.
The Heptathlon and Decathlon will take place the first two days of the Championship. Thursday and Friday will also feature prelims for running events. Finals for field events will be contested on all three days. Thursday and Friday's competition days will conclude with the 10,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. The bulk of the running event finals will be held on Saturday.
