MOBILE, Ala. – Southeast Missouri track & field opened its 2021 season Friday at the South Alabama Invitational at the Jaguar Track.
Carli Knott,
Kaitlyn Shea and
Kendall Long each posted individual first place finishes.
Knott won the women's 1,500 meters, clocking in at 4:32.51.
Kaitlyn Shea also took first in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 10:36.43. She now ranks third all-time in SEMO history for the event.
Long won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.15.
The SEMO women's 4x400 meter relay team won the relay race in 3:58.04.
Nick Bryant finished as the runner-up in the 400 meters in 48.60.
Colin Schwab took fourth in 49.67.
Claire Morrill led a SEMO women's contingent to second, fourth and fifth place finishes in the 800 meters. Morrill finished with 2:16.65 for second while
Brianna Payton took fourth (2:19.97) and Knott was fifth (2:21.62).
Breanna Miles took second in the women's 200 meters with a sprint of 24.83.
Sandrea Cogio added a time of 26.87 (28th).
Brock Wood placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.05.
Dillon Lay added a time of 57.72 (10th).
Nick South concluded the pole vault in second in Friday's outdoor opener. South surpassed a career-best height of 4.95m on his first attempt.
Shea DeGraaf and
Jack Rinehart finished with marks of 4.65m (fifth) and 4.50 (sixth), respectively.
Donald Hatfield Jackson overcame a high jump height of 2.04m for third.
Michael Jenkins posted a mark of 1.94m (fifth) and
Jon Bissell finished with 1.89m (eighth).
Jenkins was also third in the triple jump, covering a distance of 14.18m.
Ciara Potter posted a long jump of 5.59m for third at the Invitational.
Briann Jenkins also added a distance of 4.22m (18th).
In triple jump,
Serena Williams notched a feat of 11.72m for third.
Katie Schumer overcame a height of 3.51m in the pole vault for fourth.
Miles also was clocked at 59.16 for fifth in the 400 meters.
Anya Tonga led the women in the shot put with a career-best distance of 14.68m (fifth).
Nicole Humphreys tallied a throw of 12.32m (12th) and
Makenzie Williams finished with 11.75m (15th).
Wood finished ninth in the 100 meters in 10.98. On the women's side,
Serena Williams posted a time of 12.30 for fifth.
Sandrea Cogio (12.97, 20th) and
Briann Jenkins (13.20, 24th), also ran in the women's 100 meters.
Schwab and Bryant represented the Redhawks in the men's 200 meters. Schwab posted a time of 22.47 (10th) and Bryant finished in 22.66 (12th).
Terrico Garrett led the men in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.24 for fifth.
Griffin Bailey added a mark of 1:58.39 (ninth) and
Austin Perkins finished in 1:59.97 (12th).
Anthony Forrest (14.77, seventh),
Dillon Lay (15.48, ninth),
Shea DeGraaf (15.52, 10th),
Isaac Readnour (16.26, 12th) and Bissell (16.45, 14th) all competed in the 110 meter hurdles for SEMO.
Kristen Carter finished in 15.02 in the 100-meter hurdles. Williams completed the race in 16.01 (16th) and
Briann Jenkins tallied a time of 18.27.
The SEMO men's 4x400 meter relay teams took fifth (3:23.04) and 10th (3:38.05) in the race.
Hatfield Jackson and Readnour went fifth (6.77m) and sixth (6.49m) in the long jump.
Victor Mathuthu had a distance of 6.49m (eighth) and Rinehart finished with 5.87m (16th).
Dylan Clark and
Clay Alewelt represented SEMO in the shot put. Clark tallied a mark of 14.33m (10th) and Alewelt finished with 13.59m (14th).
Alewelt also had a discus throw of 44.40m (eighth). Clark led the men in hammer throw with 53.73m (fifth) and Alewelt chipped in a mark of 46.46m (10th).
Tonga posted a discus distance of 43.65m (sixth) while
Makenzie Williams finished with a throw of 42.41m (eighth). Humphreys turned in a toss of 39.93m (12th).
Humphreys then led the women in hammer with a toss of 51.21m (eighth). Tonga had a mark of 46.02m (11th) and
Makenzie Williams finished with 45.09m (13th).
Justin Breault made his Redhawks debut in the javelin, registering a heave of 56.65m for fifth. DeGraaf added a throw of 54.99m (seventh).
Josiah Kilgore and
Josh Kile also made their SEMO debuts, finishing with 49.16m (12th) and 38.70 (15th), respectively.
Kaylee Johnston posted a javelin throw of 36.56m for fifth.
SEMO will continue its 2021 outdoor season in Carbondale, Illinois, at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic March 20-21. The meet will be contested at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex on the campus of Southern Illinois.
