SEMO Sweeps UT Martin Saturday at Redhawks Open Indoor Meet

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri track & field swept UT Martin in the men's and women's team competitions Saturday at the Redhawks Open indoor meet held at the SEMO Rec Center. SEMO's women bested UTM, 82-5, and the Redhawk men overcame the Skyhawks, 71-46.
 
Nick South won the pole vault with a career-best height of 15-10.5 (4.84m). Shea DeGraaf took second, overcoming a height of 15-4.5 (4.69m). Tanner Teigen was third with 14-10.75 (4.54), competing unattached and Isaac Readnour was fourth (12-11, 3.94m).
 
Serena Williams won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.37. Sandrea Cogio finished second (7.38) followed by Briann Jenkins (7.67), Ciara Potter (7.72) and Kristen Carter (7.81). Pole vaulters Katie Schumer (7.88, sixth) and Bailey Griffiths (8.22, eighth) also ran in the sprint for SEMO. Angie Williams ran unattached, tallying a time of 8.01 (seventh).
 
On the men's side, Dillon Lay (6.62), Victor Mathuthu (6.63), and Brock Wood (6.65) went one-two-three in the finish. Anthony Forrest (7.08, eighth) also ran in the race for SEMO.
 
Breanna Miles and Cogio went one-two in the 200 meters with marks of 26.71 and 27.58, respectively. Lay won the men's 200 meters, finishing in 23.73.
 
Miles then turned in a 400 meters time of 1:02.91 (first). Readnour took third in the men's race in 55.77.
 
Brianna Payton led four Redhawks in the women's 800 meters, crossing the finish in 2:23.67. Kendall Long was second in 2:23.87 followed by Tayler Gudde (2:24.99) and Taylor Fox (2:29.08).
 
Markeith Crawford took second in the men's 800 meters with a time of 2:00.94 after Griffin Bailey (2:00.36) who competed unattached. Austin Perkins (2:02.60, fifth), Kory Snyder (2:03.97, seventh) and Colin Schwab (2:17.69, 12th) also represented the Redhawks in the race.
 
Carter then won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.65. Angie Williams posted a mark of 9.87 unattached.
 
Lay placed second in the men's 55 meter hurdles in 7.89. Wood took third (7.96) followed by Forrest (8.01). Jon Bissell completed the race in 8.65 (sixth) and Readnour posted a time of 9.00 (seventh).
 
Serena Williams and Ellie Gamradt tied for the top spot in the women's high jump. The duo both overcame 5-3 (1.60m) on their first attempts. Potter added a height of 4-11 (1.50m) and Brianna Jenkins finished with 4-9 (1.45m).
 
Donald Hatfield Jackson won the men's competition with a mark of 6-11.50 (2.12m). Michael Jenkins and Shea DeGraaf tied for second with 6-8.25 (2.04m). Tallyn Brazell (6-4, 1.93m fourth) and Bissell (6-4, 1.93m) also competed in the event for SEMO.
 
Schumer led the SEMO women in pole vault, eclipsing a mark of 11-7.75 (3.55m). Nicole Silverlake placed second, notching a mark of 10-8 (3.25m).
 
Brianna Jenkins took first in the long jump with a distance of 17-9.50 (5.42m) followed by Potter's feat of 17-7.5 (5.37m). Leslie Brooks (16-3.25, 4.96m, third) and Angie Williams (15-1.25, 4.60m, fifth) also competed in the field event, unattached. 
 
Mathuthu took second in the men's long jump with 22-3.5 (6.79m). Wood added a feat of 21-11 (6.68m, third) and Readnour finished with 21-6 (6.55m).
 
In the triple jump, Serena Williams placed first with 38-9 (11.81m). Potter took third (36-2, 11.02m) and Brooks finished with 36-5.5 (11.11m, second, unattached).
 
Michael Jenkins took first in the men's triple jump with 45-10.75 (13.99m).
 
Nicole Humphreys took first in both the shot put (40-1.25, 12.22m) and weight throw (58-8.50, 17.89m). Makenzie Williams finished runner-up in both events (35-2.5, 10.73, shot put & 50-11, 15.52m, weight throw).
 
Clay Alewelt won the men's shot put with a distance of 48-1.25 (14.66m). Dylan Clark was second (46-3.50, 14.11m) followed by DeGraaf (41-7.75, 12.69m) and Bissell (30-11, 9.42m).
 
Clark paced the men in the weight throw with a mark of 57-11.25 (17.66m) for first. Alewelt was second, tallying a heave of 47-11 (14.60m).
 
The Redhawk men's 4x400 meter relay team of Nick Bryant, Schwab, Lay and Forrest took second in the race in 3:35.70.
 
SEMO will next open its 2021 outdoor track & field season March 19-20 at the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Alabama.
