Southeast Heads to Mississippi and New Orleans for Trio of Road Duals

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (5-4) hits the road for a trio of meets Sunday and Tuesday. Southeast faces Louisiana Monroe Sunday at 9 a.m. followed by a meeting with Jackson State noon at the JSU Tennis Center in Jackson, Mississippi. The Redhawks then take on Loyola New Orleans Tuesday at 2 p.m. in "The Big Easy" at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
SEMO heads to Mississippi and New Orleans on a three-meet winning streak after overcoming Louisiana Tech, 4-2, on Monday in Paducah, Kentucky. Romana Tarajova and Manuela Barriga each earned singles and doubles victories in the dual.
The Redhawks doubles teams have now clinched the doubles point in seven straight meets.
Tarajova and Barriga beat Andrea Perez-Lopez and Ilana Tetruashvili, 6-2, for the duo's third straight win. Isabella Krupa and Teona Velkoska then ousted Ana Jover and Leonie Nutz, 3-6, for their team leading eighth doubles victory and sixth in a row.
On the singles side, Tarajova registered her team best sixth singles win with a 6-0, 7-5, match over Sonia Chen at the top spot.
Barriga notched her first career dual singles win at the sixth position Monday. The freshman from Bogotá, Colombia, eased past Nutz, 6-2, 6-3.
Kseniya Zonova also claimed a singles victory.
Anais Emelie heads into the three duals on a three-match winning streak and is perfect at the fifth singles position (3-0).
ULM is 3-1 in 2019 with wins over Alcorn State, Southeastern Louisiana and Delta State most recently on Feb. 26. The Warhawks host Louisiana Tech Friday ahead of their dual with Southeast.
Jackson State comes into their meeting with Southeast, holding a 3-11 mark. The Tigers fell to South Alabama on Feb. 27, 7-0, in Mobile, Alabama, and face Auburn University Montgomery (Alabama) Saturday at 2 p.m.
New Orleans Loyola is 6-4 this season and most recently defeated Campbellsville, 5-1, on March 5 in Macon, Georgia.
Southeast next returns to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for the team's home opener and Ohio Valley Conference opener Friday, March 22 against UT Martin at 2 p.m. at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
