Welcome to the Hall of Fame
Southeast Missouri inducted six individuals as part of its 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame Class during a special dinner and induction ceremony Friday. Angie Aschoff (Volleyball, 1996-99), Tom Brennecke (Football/Track & Field, 1954-57), Lutricia Purham (Track & Field, 1997-2000), Tim Rademaker (Assistant Track & Field Coach), Todd Pennington (1999-01) and David Simonhoff (2003-06) form this year's class.
Series History
The Redhawks are 28-24 all-time against Eastern Illinois. Southeast Missouri has won three of the last four meetings between these teams and swept the Panthers last season. SEMO scored 80 or more points in each of its last four matchups with EIU.
Where They Stand
Southeast Missouri enters the weekend at 11th in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. Eastern Illinois is currently tied for second with Belmont. Murray State, Austin Peay and Jacksonville State share the top spot in the standings with equal 6-1 league records. MSU and JSU each lost for the first time in conference play Thursday. The Redhawks are looking to end a five-game losing streak and have dropped 10 of their last 11 contests.
Triple Overtime Heartbreaker
Southeast Missouri dropped a heartbreaking 87-86 triple overtime thriller to SIU Edwardsville at home Thursday. Cameron Williams blocked Isaiah Gable's 3-point attempt with one second left in the final overtime period as the Cougars hung on and completed a sweep of the Redhawks this season. SEMO had a 67-60 lead with 3:08 remaining in regulation when SIUE scored eight of the next nine points to tie the game.Â
Oh So Close
The Redhawks lost their last three games by a combined seven points. Southeast Missouri dropped a 73-69 decision at Morehead State (Jan. 17) and came up short at Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 19) in an 85-83 setback on a buzzer-beater. The Redhawks most recently went three overtimes with SIU Edwardsville (Jan. 24) before falling, 87-86. SEMO has been involved in five games decided by four or less points this season and stands at 1-4 in those contests.
Freshmen Deliver
True freshmen forwards Gabe McGlothan and Sage Tolbert put up new season-highs in the scoring column vs. SIU Edwardsville (Jan. 24). McGlothan, who made his first career start against the Cougars, turned in a double-double 18 points and 16 rebounds. Meanwhile, Tolbert came off the bench for the first time this season and added 18 points and eight boards. Tolbert and McGlothan are Southeast Missouri's top two rebounders with 6.3 and 5.2 rebounds a game, respectively.
Over 80
The Redhawks scored more than 80 points for the fourth time this season when they put up 86 vs. SIU Edwardsville. The 86 points against the Cougars are Southeast Missouri's third-most in a game this year. SEMO scored a season-high 102 points vs. Quincy (Nov. 12), 88 points vs. SIU Edwardsville (Jan. 3) and 83 points at Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 19) during its other 80-plus point performances. The Redhawks last scored over 80 points in back-to-back games on Feb. 10 (81 at UT Martin) and Feb. 15 (80 vs. Eastern Illinois) last season.
Overtime Games
After its 87-86 loss to SIU Edwardsville, Southeast Missouri now stands at 1-1 in overtime games this year. The Redhawks overcame a 16-point halftime deficit to get by UT Martin, 74-69, for their lone Ohio Valley Conference win on Jan. 5. Thursday's game against SIU Edwardsville marked the first time SEMO played a triple overtime contest in 11 years. The Redhawks beat Austin Peay, 121-116, the last time they played three overtimes on Jan. 29, 2008.Â
Brewer Matches Season-High
Ledarrius Brewer tallied a game-high and matched a season-best 24 points vs. SIU Edwardsville (Jan. 24). Brewer shot 7-of-15 from the field and 9-of-13 at the free throw line en route to his third 20-point game this season. It was Brewer's 14th double-digit scoring game this season and 36th of his career.
Halftime Lead
Southeast Missouri led at the half for the seventh time this season and first since Dec. 21 when it headed into the locker room with a 36-34 advantage vs. SIU Edwardsville (Jan. 24). SEMO is 5-2 in games where it leads at halftime this year. It was also the Redhawks first halftime lead in seven Ohio Valley Conference contests.
Caldwell Misses Second Game
Freshman guard Alex Caldwell missed his second game of the season when he was sidelined due to illness vs. SIU Edwardsville (Jan. 24). Caldwell is expected to return for Saturday's matchup with Eastern Illinois.
All 20 Starts
Sophomore Isaiah Gable is the only Redhawk who has started every game this season. Gable is fourth on the team in scoring with 8.2 points per game and is the team's top scorer in Ohio Valley Conference games (13.1 ppg).
Dalton Cracks Top-10 in Assists
Jonathan Dalton, who had five or more assists a total of five times this season, ranks ninth all-time in career assists at Southeast Missouri. Dalton's 283 career assists surpassed Derek Winans 282 (2001-05) for the ninth-place spot. Dalton leads SEMO and ranks 11th in the Ohio Valley Conference with 74 total assists this season.
Draining 3s
The Redhawks matched a season-high 14 three-pointers at Florida State (Dec. 17). Southeast Missouri shot 14-of-37 behind the arc with seven treys in each half. SEMO made 11 or more 3-pointers in eight contests. The Redhawks are averaging 8.8 three-point field goals made per game.

Southeast Missouri ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference in 3-pointers made through 20 games this season. The Redhawks drained 176 three-pointers in 489 attempts. In the last 12 games, SEMO made 114 threes for an average of little under 10 per game (9.5) during that stretch.

The Redhawks rank second in the Ohio Valley Conference and 32nd in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense. Opponents are shooting 30.1 percent from beyond the arc against Southeast Missouri this year. Murray State leads the OVC with a .274 three-point field goal percentage defense.
About Eastern Illinois
Eastern Illinois comes to Cape Girardeau on a two-game winning streak and winners in three of its previous four games. The Panthers are coming off back-to-back two-point victories beating Austin Peay, 85-83, on Jan. 19 and UT Martin, 66-64, on Jan. 24. EIU gave APSU its only Ohio Valley Conference loss this season. The Panthers are second in the OVC in 3-point field goal percentage shooting 37.4 percent (167-of-446) from downtown this season. Josiah Wallace ranks among the league's top 10 scoring leaders at seventh with 15.2 points a game.
Against the Ohio Valley
Southeast Missouri is 20-37 in Ohio Valley Conference play under head coach Rick Ray. The Redhawks best OVC record with Ray at the helm was 9-7 in 2016-17. That year was also the last time SEMO made the OVC Tournament.
