OVC Update
Southeast Missouri's five non-conference wins are fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. The Redhawks (5-6), Murray State (7-1), Jacksonville State (6-4), Austin Peay (6-4), Eastern Illinois (6-5) and Eastern Kentucky (6-5) all have at least five victories thus far. Belmont (8-1) leads the conference with eight victories.
Brewer Nets Season-High
Ledarrius Brewer resumed his position as Southeast Missouri's top scorer this season following a season-high 24-point performance at The Citadel (Dec. 15). Brewer shot 9-of-17 from the field and knocked down a season-best 5-of-10 three-pointers against the Bulldogs. He also dished out two assists and had a pair of blocks. It was his team-high ninth double-digit scoring game and second 20-point effort this season. Brewer leads the Redhawks with 13.2 points per game.
Last Time Out
Southeast Missouri dropped its second-straight game by double figures when it lost to The Citadel, 86-74, on Dec. 15. The Redhawks shot 50 percent (15-of-30) from the field in the second half and pulled to within a point (51-50) on Gabe McGlothan's jumper with 13:52 remaining. SEMO had a chance to take the lead, but missed a 3-pointer and didn't recover after that. The Citadel scored 27 points off turnovers and outscored the Redhawks, 15-4, at the free throw line.Â
Hogan Returns to Sunshine State
Guard Skyler Hogan returns to his home state of Florida when Southeast Missouri visits nationally-ranked Florida State Monday. Hogan is in his first season of competition with the Redhawks after transferring to SEMO from Embry-Riddle. He is a native of Melbourne, Florida which is a little under five hours away from Tallahassee. Hogan attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy as a prep. His older brother, Jace Hogan, is currently Jacksonville University's second-leading scorer with 13.6 points a game this season. The Hogan brothers played each other earlier this season at the South Alabama Ungar Classic (Nov. 16). SEMO won that game by a score of 77-71.Â
Final Non-Conference WeekÂ
The Redhawks enter their final week of non-conference action on a two-game losing streak after falling to Southern Illinois, 83-73, on Dec. 8 and The Citadel, 86-74, on Dec. 15. Southeast Missouri is looking to finish non-league play strong after dropping four of its previous six contests.
Caldwell Sees Double
Freshman guard Alex Caldwell finished with double-digit points off the bench for the fifth time this season when he scored 14 against The Citadel (Dec. 15). A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Caldwell hit 6-of-10 field goals and drained a pair of 3-pointers. He scored seven points in the first six minutes he played. A nice group of family and friends were on hand to watch Caldwell during his return to South Carolina.
100 Threes
Southeast Missouri reached the century mark in 3-pointers made this season at The Citadel (Dec. 15). SEMO, which averages a little over nine 3-pointers (9.09) per game, is 100-of-292 (.342) from beyond the arc. The Redhawks and Eastern Illinois lead the Ohio Valley Conference with 100 made 3-pointers this year. Ledarrius Brewer knocked down SEMO's 100th three with 1:39 left to play against the Bulldogs.
