Senior Day
Southeast will honor seniors
Eli Sample,
Trey Kellum,
Jamaal Calvin and
Antonius Cleveland prior to Saturday's game. Calvin and Cleveland played four years together with the Redhawks. This group has combined for 1,009 points, 381 rebounds, 145 assists and 105 steals in 76 starts this season.
OVC Tournament Field is Set
With its 82-69 win over Murray State (Feb. 23), Southeast clinched a spot in next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. The Redhawks, Belmont, Morehead State, Jacksonville State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin and Murray State are the eight teams headed to this year's event. The OVC Tournament will be played at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee on Mar. 1-4. Southeast makes its 15th all-time OVC Tournament appearance in 2016-17.
OVC West Division Title in Sight
If Southeast beats Austin Peay Saturday, it will win the Ohio Valley Conference West Division and earn the No. 2 seed (and double bye to the semifinals) in next week's OVC Tournament. If UT Martin also wins, the Redhawks will still be the No. 2 seed because they own the tiebreaker with a better OVC West Division record. If Southeast, Murray State and UT Martin (SEMO loses, MSU wins) all finish tied at 9-7, the Redhawks win the tiebreaker in that scenario with a 3-1 composite record. If UTM wins and Southeast loses, the Skyhawks will win the OVC West and be the No. 2 seed.
Winning OVC Record
The Redhawks are 9-6 in Ohio Valley Conference play, clinching their first winning season in league action since 2011-12 (9-7). Southeast was no better than 8-8 in the OVC since the conference split into divisions in 2012-13. A win Saturday, would give Southeast 10 conference wins in a season for the first time since 1999-2000 (14-4).
Home Momentum
Southeast won seven of their previous eight games at the Show Me Center and are 6-1 against Ohio Valley Conference foes on their homecourt. Overall, Southeast is 10-3 at home this season. It is the Redhawks best home record since they went 10-4 in 2011-12.
Series History
The Redhawks are 26-31 all-time against Austin Peay since the series started in 1991-92. Southeast won four of its last six meetings with the Governors.
Red-Hot Redhawks
Southeast has won seven of its last 10 games. The Redhawks scored 80 or more points six times and recorded four double-digit victories during that stretch. Additionally, Southeast shot 51.1 percent or better from the field on six occasions.
Another Huge Win
Rivals Southeast and Murray State entered Thursday night tied for first in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division. The Redhawks defeated the Racers, 82-69, in front of a raucous crowd of 5,225 at the Show Me Center. Southeast beat MSU twice in a season for the first time in 74 years.
More History in the Making
If Southeast wins Saturday, it will sweep Austin Peay in the season series for the third time in five years. The Redhawks have never beaten both Murray State and APSU twice in the same season.
Did You Say Six?
Southeast had a season-high six players score double figures in its recent 82-69 win over Murray State (Feb. 23).
Denzel Mahoney scored 14 points,
Antonius Cleveland had a double-double 13 points and 11 rebounds,
Tahj Eaddy and
Jamaal Calvin each scored 13,
Trey Kellum added 10 and
Jaylen Benton chipped in 12 off the bench. All five of Southeast's starters finished with double-digit points for the first time this year.
Games Started
Antonius Cleveland will break Southeast's all-time career record in games started when he takes the court against Austin Peay Saturday. Cleveland is currently tied with Lucas Nutt (2009-14). Cleveland and Nutt have 106 starts.
Number 50
Point guard
Jamaal Calvin will make his 50th career start in his final home game at Southeast Saturday. Calvin played in 105 games and logged 49 starts since 2013-14.
Cleveland Advances to Quarterfinals of Dark Horse Dunker Competition
Southeast Missouri's
Antonius Cleveland and North Florida's Chris Davenport are battling for votes in the quarterfinals of the Dark Horse Dunker competition. Both players are in the running to compete in the State Farm College Slam Dunk Championship Final Four weekend in Phoenix. The field, which started at 16 finalists, is now down to eight. Quarterfinals voting is from Feb. 22-Mar. 1. Fans can vote using an interactive bracket by visiting DarkHorseDunker.com. The player with the most votes in each matchup will move on to the Final Four round. Fans can vote once per day on multiple devices (example: computer and phone = 2 votes).
Divisional Play
Since the Ohio Valley Conference moved to divisions in 2012-13, Southeast has never won the West. The closest the Redhawks came to winning their division was when they finished second with an 8-8 mark in both 2012-13 and 2013-14. Southeast has never bypassed the first round or been higher than a No. 6 seed in the league's current merit-based tournament format.
Five for Mahoney
Guard
Denzel Mahoney won his league-high fifth adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week award on Feb. 20. Mahoney won the honor for the fifth time in six weeks. He was one of five Southeast players to score double figures in a 90-61 win over UT Martin (Feb. 18). Mahoney pitched in 17 points on 5-of-11 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws. He also pulled down five rebounds, dished out four assists and had a steal in 30 minutes. Mahoney, the Redhawks second-leading scorer, reached double-digits in the scoring column for the 23rd time this season. Austin Peay's John Murry (Co-Player), Belmont's Evan Bradds (Co-Player) and Murray State's Jonathan Stark (Newcomer) rounded out this week's honorees.
Cleveland Reaches 1,500
Antonius Cleveland scored a game-high 21 points to key Southeast's latest 90-61 win over UT Martin (Feb. 18), and, as a result, reached 1,500 points in his career. Cleveland also went over 500 points this season. Tyler Stone was the last Redhawk to get both 500 points in a season (578 in 2013-14) and 1,500 points in a career (1,546 from 2011-14).
More on Cleveland
Antonius Cleveland is seventh all-time in career scoring at Southeast. Cleveland (1,513) surpassed Marland Smith (1,423 pts., 2009-13) for that spot. Cleveland recently went over 150 steals (156) in his career.
