We Meet Again
Southeast and North Carolina Central hook up for the second time in six days. The Redhawks fell to the Eagles, 77-70, on Nov. 26 in Cape Girardeau. NCCU leads the all-time series by a count of 2-0.
Month One is Done
The Redhawks closed out their first month of the season with a 83-59 home win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Nov. 28). Southeast ended a two-game losing streak and finished November with a 3-4 mark. The Redhawks hit the road for four of their next six contests beginning Saturday.
Over 80
Southeast scored more than 80 points for the fourth time in seven games this season when it beat Hannibal-LaGrange, 83-59, on Nov. 28. The Redhawks 24-point victory was their largest of the year. It was Southeast's biggest margin of victory in a non-conference game since the Redhawks beat Central Arkansas, 87-63, on Dec. 1, 2016. It also marked the Redhawks sixth win by over 20 points under head coach Rick Ray.
Board Certified
Freshman Isaiah Gable pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds against Hannibal-LaGrange (Nov. 28). Gable had all of his rebounds on the defensive end. He also scored a season-best eight points in 19 minutes off the bench against the Trojans. Gable became the third Redhawk to get 10 or more rebounds in a game this season.
Mahoney Second in Scoring
Sophomore Denzel Mahoney enters the weekend ranked second in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring with 19.4 points per game. Mahoney is currently behind Eastern Kentucky's Nick Mayo (19.8 ppg). He recently matched a season-high 27 points against Hannibal-LaGrange (Nov. 28). Mahoney has scored over 20 points in four of his first seven starts this year.
Non-Division I
The Redhawks picked up their 27th-straight win against non-Division I teams when they beat Hannibal-LaGrange, 83-59, on Nov. 28. Southeast hasn't lost to a non-Division I program since 2001-02 (62-52, vs. Birmingham Southern on Nov. 16). The Redhawks won both of their matchups against non-Division I foes this year.
Lineup Combinations
Southeast has used three different starting lineups in seven games this season. Most recently, Ledarrius Brewer, Justin Carpenter, Milos Vranes, Denzel Mahoney and Jonathan Dalton started the last two games.
Make it Six
The Redhawks outrebounded their opponent in five-straight games. Southeast's 42 rebounds against North Carolina Central (Nov. 26) are a season-high. The Redhawks have not been outrebounded since their season-opener versus Missouri Baptist (Nov. 10).
Laros Sees Double
Mark Laros scored 10 points in the first 6:54 of the game against Hannibal-LaGrange (Nov. 28). Laros put up double figures in the scoring column for the first time in his Southeast career. He shot 5-of-6 from the field and also grabbed five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
OVC Rankings
The Redhawks rank among the top five in the Ohio Valley Conference in free throw percentage (3rd, .759), field goal percentage (5th, .463), 3-point field goal percentage defense (3rd, .333), rebounding defense (2nd, 32 rpg), assist/turnover ratio (5th, 1.1) and defensive rebound percentage (2nd, .761). Individually, Denzel Mahoney rates second in scoring (19.4 ppg) and ninth in free throw percentage (.868), Justin Carpenter is third in field goal percentage (.600), Jonathan Dalton is third in assists (5.3 apg), 10th in steals (1.4 spg) and third in assist/turnover ratio (2.8), Ledarrius Brewer is seventh in 3-point field goals made (2.4 per game) and Mark Laros is 10th in blocks (0.9).
Active Streaks
Denzel Mahoney has started 40-consecutive games. Mahoney scored in 39 contests during his college career. He opened the season with 21 points against Missouri Baptist (Nov. 10) and 25 at Louisiana Tech (Nov. 13), and recently scored a career-high 27 vs. Hannibal-LaGrange (Nov. 28).
