Redhawks Sign Guard Tahj Eaddy

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri signed combo guard Tahj Eaddy on the first day of the basketball signing period Wednesday.

Eaddy (6'2", 165) averaged 24.6 points and 4.2 assists per game in one season at Tennessee Preparatory Academy in Memphis. The 2016 National Association of Christian Athletes Elite Division Most Valuable Player, Eaddy shot 48 percent from the field, 46 percent from 3-point range and 88 percent at the free throw line.

"I am excited about Tahj's decision to join our basketball family," said Southeast head coach Rick Ray. "Tahj has dedicated himself to basketball and has incessantly worked on his game to improve his skill level. The end result is that he has blossomed into a true combo guard who can create offense for himself and others, while also possessing the ability to quarterback his team."

Eaddy transitioned from being a shooting guard to the point guard position during his only year at Tennessee Preparatory Academy. He immediately caught the attention of Southeast's staff when they went to observe a practice.

"Tahj is going to bring toughness at the guard position. He is very efficient with a high basketball I.Q.," said Tennessee Preparatory Academy coach Harold Rayford. "Tahj makes great decisions and he is a bonafide scorer that keeps the defense honest just knowing that he can hit the outside shot. He is the ideal teammate to have and is a great kid to be around. We were impressed by the enthusiasm that Coach Ray and Coach [Benjy] Taylor showed in our program and believe that Southeast Missouri State is getting a great player with Tahj Eaddy."

Eaddy played his first three prep seasons at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Connecticut before moving to Tennessee Preparatory Academy for his senior year. He earned Southern Connecticut Conference honors for the Green Knights.

"Tahj has a tremendous support system that includes his parents and the fine coaching staff at Tennessee Prep," said Ray. "Tennessee Prep has truly developed a competitive culture that has pushed young men like Tahj to excel both on and off the court. We can't wait to get Tahj on our campus this summer to begin his journey as a Redhawk!"

Eaddy joins guards Denzel Mahoney (6'4", 200, Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty H.S.) and Ray Kowalski (6'3", 185, Concord, N.C./Concord H.S.) in the Redhawks 2016-17 class.

The regular basketball signing period ends May 18.
