Redhawks Begin ITA Regionals in Murfreesboro

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri's women's tennis team begins the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament Thursday in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
"We are looking forward to some tough competition this week," said head coach Mary Beth Gunn. "Our focus is to use this tournament as a learning experience and to get in some quality match play to make us tougher on the court."
Four members of the squad will participate in the five-day event, including Oleksandra Doroshenko, Anais Emelie, Isabella Krupa and Kseniya Zonova.
Zonova will open in the main singles draw against Kentucky's Akvile Parazinskaite. Doroshenko and Krupa pair up in the qualifying doubles draw to take on Middle Tennessee State's Lidia Burrows and Holly Horsfall to see who will advance into the main doubles draw. In B Flight singles, Krupa will take on Nicoli Pereira of Evansville, Emelie will face off against MTSU's Josefina Zehnder and Doroshenko opens play against Butler's Jocelyn Koester to conclude the first round of play.
Through the fall slate so far, Doroshenko, Emelie, Krupa and Zonova have combined for 33 total victories with 16 singles wins and 17 in doubles play. Doroshenko leads the team in total (16), doubles (10) and singles (6) victories.
