Redhawks Fall to SIUE, 75-61

Antonius Cleveland recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals Thursday.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Led by 23 points from Kris Davis, SIUE (9-11, 5-4) earned a 75-61 victory over Southeast Missouri (9-12, 3-5) on Thursday evening at the Show Me Center. C.J. Carr added 18 points and Donivine Stewart added 15 points for the Cougars. Jamaal Calvin and Isiah Jones both finished with 12 points for the Redhawks.
 
SIUE shot 43% (23-for-54) from the floor, including a 46% (10-for-22) mark in the second half. The Cougars shot 83% (20-for-24) from the free throw line and outscored the Redhawks 16-8 in second chance points.
 
Southeast converted 40% (21-for-53) of field goal attempts, 35% (6-for-17) from 3-point range and 72% (13-for-18) from the charity stripe.
 
SIUE got out to an early lead, pulling ahead 18-13 before the Redhawks hit four consecutive shots to gain a 24-20 lead with 8:14 remaining in the first half.
 
The Cougars then battled back to tie the game and went to halftime with a 35-34 lead. Carr and Davis both had nine points in the opening half for SIUE while Calvin drained four shots from beyond the arc to record all 12 of his points in the first 20 minutes.
 
SIUE opened the second half on a 7-0 run and never looked back, outscoring Southeast 40-27 in the final half.
 
Davis finished 8-for-13 from the field while Carr was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
 
Nino Johnson and Antonius Cleveland both reached double figures for the Redhawks. Cleveland had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
 
Jones went 4-for-4 from the field and scored nine points in the second half.
 
Southeast continues Ohio Valley Conference play at Austin Peay on Saturday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tennessee.
