CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri baseball dropped their series finale against Jacksonville State Sunday, 5-3. The game was sent into a weather delay immediately following the conclusion of the seventh inning. After a two and a half hour delay, the game resumed at 6:13 p.m. Jacksonville State (23-19, 12-9 OVC) was able to hold on and avoid the series sweep.

The Redhawks are now 29-14, 19-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

After Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech both went 2-1 on the weekend, the Redhawks still hold a three-game lead on the Golden Eagles in the OVC standings.

The Redhawks were once again the first to score, the 12th game in a row to do so. Clayton Evans singled to lead off the third inning. He was bunted over to second by Jason Blum. Cole Bieser doubled on a ball that landed just fair down the right field line to put runners on second and third with one out. Matt Tellor punched one through the left side to score both runners and giving Southeast a 2-0 lead.

The Redhawks produced an important insurance run in the sixth. Derek Gibson singled up the middle to begin the inning. He was bunted to second by Andy Lennington and scored on a two-out single through the left side by Scott Mitchell to put the Redhawks ahead 3-0.

Earlier in the game, Gibson extended his hitting and on base streaks to 20 games. Tellor is also now sporting a 21-game reached base safely streak.

Just like that, starting pitcher Ryan Lenaburg not only lost his campaign for a no-hitter but Jacksonville tied the game in the sixth inning. With one out, back-to-back singles put runners on for JSU. A failed pickoff attempt at second dribbled into center field, allowing runners to advance to second and third. In his first at bat of the game after being brought in to play first base in the top half of the inning, Tyler Gamble hit a bloop single over Lennington's head at third, allowing both runners to score. Stephen Bartlett then doubled to right center, scoring Gamble, and tying the game at 3-3.

Lenaburg was pulled to begin the seventh inning, relieved by Christian Hull. A leadoff walk followed by a sac bunt, a wild pitch, another walk and a stolen base had runners on second and third with one out. A sacrifice fly gave JSU the lead. A single by Eddie Mora-Loera put the Gamecocks up 5-3.

As the eighth inning was set to begin, the game was sent into a weather delay for two and a half hours.

Coming out of the delay, Mitchell doubled to right center to get a runner on. Pinch runner John Logan Zink was stranded on second.

Travis Stout, the top closer in the league, was brought in to shut down the Redhawks in the ninth.

The Redhawks outhit the Gamecocks 10-7 in the game. Tellor, Gibson, and Evans finished with two hits in the game.

Griff Gordon, Bartlett, and Mora-Loera each had two hits for the Gamecocks.

On the mound, Hull (3-2) suffered the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the seventh. Lenaburg pitched six complete innings. He allowed three runs on four hits.

Michael Mason (4-1) earned the win after being the pitcher of record at the time JSU took the lead. Starter Taylor Shields pitched six complete innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. Stout earned his ninth save of the season.

The Redhawks are slated to take on in-state SEC opponent Missouri Tuesday at 6 p.m.
