CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri forward
Tyler Stone and guard/forward
Jarekious Bradley were named to the 2013-14 All-Ohio Valley Conference Team Tuesday. Stone earned first-team honors, while Bradley took second-team and All-Newcomer accolades.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Stone is Southeast's sixth First-Team All-OVC selection and first since Reggie Golson (2004-05). Stone helped the Redhawks shake off an inconsistent stretch in the middle of the season to win their final four games and earn the No. 6 seed for this week's OVC Tournament. Over those final four games, he averaged 19.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game and was named OVC Player of the Week on back-to-back occasions. Stone ranked third in the OVC in scoring (19.1 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg), blocks (1.5 bpg) and double-doubles (13). He scored double figures in all 28 of his games and pitched in 20 or more 14 times this season. Stone had a career-high 37 points at SIU Edwardsville on Feb. 6. He earned Second-Team All-OVC honors twice before making the first-team this year.
Stone's cousin, Jarekious, also hails from Memphis. Bradley, despite battling through injury during the latter part of the season, leads Southeast and ranks second in the OVC with 19.4 points per game. He enters the postseason with 6.5 rebounds per game and a team-high 69 three-point field goals made. Bradley also leads the team with 35 steals and is second with 28 blocks. He was named OVC Newcomer of the Week a total of seven times and has 26 double-digit scoring games during his first season at Southeast. Bradley leads the Redhawks with eighteen 20-plus scoring games and put up 30 in two contests. In addition, he has six double-doubles.
Belmont's J.J. Mann was named OVC Player of the Year, while Murray State's Cameron Payne was Freshman of the Year and Eastern Kentucky's Corey Walden was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Belmont's Rick Byrd is the 2013-14 OVC Coach of the Year.
Southeast faces Eastern Illinois in the first round of the OVC Tournament Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m., CT, in Nashville, Tenn.
