CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Tyler Stone's 10th double-double of the year was not enough to overcome the loss of leading scorer Jarekious Bradley in a 79-70 loss to UT Martin Wednesday in the Show Me Center.

Stone scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, both game highs, but the Redhawks received just five minutes from Bradley who averages 20.1 points per game.

"Naturally we are disappointed," Southeast head coach Dickey Nutt said. "When Jarekious went down we went flat outside of Tyler. It was a great opportunity for someone to step up. We just didn't handle that adversity."

The Redhawks ( 13-13, 4-8 OVC) were up 10-6 when Bradley got injured and briefly built a nine-point lead, powered on an 7-2 run. Paul McRoberts began the hot-streak with an easy lay-in followed by a breakaway dunk from Stone.

Jamaal Calvin converted a McRoberts steal into a fastbreak layup followed by a free throw.

The Skyhawks (8-19, 3-9 OVC) quickly turned the deficit around on an 11-1 run of their own.

"They put a 3-2 zone on us and we couldn't crack it," Nutt said. "We were fine on defense. It was on the offensive end today."

After scoring the first points of the game, UT Martin grabbed their second lead of the contest with 7:58 remaining in the first half and entered the intermission with a 33-30 lead.

Southeast hit its opening shot of the second half, a 3-pointer from Darrian Gray. But the Skyhawks answered quickly with a trey of their own from Taylor Myles.

Lucas Nutt then answered with a trifecta to knot the game up at 36-36. The back-to-back-to-back three's would be a signal of things to come throughout the second half that featured eight ties and six lead changes.

With UT Martin holding a one-point lead with 8:40 remaining in the game, the Redhawks again lost a top player, this time in defensive specialist McRoberts. The freshman was whistled for his fifth foul while trying to fight through a screen.

The Redhawks held their final lead of the game at 62-61 with 5:52 remaining when Stone hit a jumper in the paint.

But an 11-1 run from UT Martin spoiled the brief lead for the home squad as the Skyhawaks built a 70-63 lead with under four minutes remaining.

The Redhawks tried to lengthen the game by fouling but made shots from the charity stripe for UT Martin made the comeback fall short.

Josh Langford joined Stone in double digits with 14 points as the only two Redhawks in double figures. The Skyhawks placed four in double-digit scoring led by Myles and Newell, who each scored 18 apiece.

Both squads were about equal from the field as the Redhawks shot 43.5 percent while the Skyhawks shot 41.9 percent. A major statistical difference came in points off the bench that saw UT Martin score 40 compared to 20 from Southeast.

The loss keeps Southeast in tenth place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, making a tough climb ahead for the Redhawks to qualify for the OVC Tournament.

"It is going to be a true test of character," Nutt said. "We have no room for error now.

"I am confident this team will bound back and make a difference. Everything is in front of us and we are capable."

The Redhawks host Jacksonville State on Feb. 20. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., CT, at the Show Me Center.
