Series HistorySoutheast owns a 5-0 record in its all-time series against Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions come to Cape Girardeau on the backend of a home-and-home series this year. The Redhawks beat SLU, 63-61, in overtime the last time these teams met at the Show Me Center on Dec. 3, 2011. This year marks the fourth-straight Southeast and SLU square off against each other.
Against the SouthlandSoutheastern Louisiana is the second Southland Conference school the Redhawks face this season. Southeast won at Central Arkansas, 74-68, on Nov. 22. The Redhawks have played six Southland Conference members in their basketball history. Southeast is 16-7 all-time against such foes, holding a 6-5 record vs. UCA, a 0-1 record vs. Nicholls State, a 5-0 mark vs. Southeastern Louisiana, a 2-0 record vs. Texas-Arlington, a 2-0 record vs. New Orleans and a 1-1 mark vs. McNeese State.
Home Sweet HomeThe Redhawks are 2-0 with a pair of 30-point wins at home this season. Southeast beat Hannibal-LaGrange, 86-49, on Nov. 18 and Alabama A&M, 85-51, on Nov. 29. Southeast, which is averaging 85.5 points per game at the Show Me Center this year, is currently one of six Ohio Valley Conference teams without a home loss.
Looking AheadSaturday marks the start of a three-game homestand that also features Missouri Valley Conference opponents Southern Illinois (Dec. 10) and Missouri State (Dec. 13). After that, Southeast plays two more SEC schools in nationally-ranked Arkansas (Dec. 20) and Ole Miss (Dec. 22). The Redhawks then face Harris-Stowe (Dec. 28) in their final tune-up before Ohio Valley Conference play. Southeast will be at home for four of its last six games this month.
Redhawks Come Up Short at MissouriSoutheast held a 39-29 lead with 14:52 left in the game before coming up on the short end of a 65-61 loss at in-state rival Missouri (Dec. 2). D'Angelo Allen's first three-pointer of the season gave the Tigers their first lead at 57-55 with just under four minutes left. Allen's make was one of four three-pointers in the last 5:35. Missouri finished with 6-of-7 threes in the second half and took advantage of the Redhawks .357 free throw percentage to pull off its comeback win.
Block PartyNino Johnson leads Southeast and ranks 28th in the nation in blocked shots. Johnson has 18 blocks through seven starts this year. He had three or more swats in four-straight contests. Johnson is also third in the Ohio Valley Conference, averaging 2.6 blocks per game.
Bradley Brings ItSoutheast's leading scorer,
Jarekious Bradley pitched in double figures in five-straight starts since returning from a quad contusion injury. Bradley, who averages 16.4 points a game, began the year by scoring 15 vs. Hannibal-LaGrange (Nov. 18) and 20 at Central Arkansas (Nov. 22). He turned in his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 boards at Bowling Green (Nov. 25) and followed that up with 17 points vs. Alabama A&M (Nov. 29) and 12 at Missouri (Dec. 2). Bradley leads the Redhawks with 14 three-pointers made and is 12-of-13 at the free throw line, as well. He has scored double figures in six-consecutive games dating back to last season.
Free Throw Streak EndsJarekious Bradley, the Redhawks top free throw shooter this season, saw a streak of 12-straight free throws come to an end at Missouri (Dec. 2). Bradley missed the front end of a two-shot foul with 4:29 left to play. He opened the year by hitting a perfect 11-of-11 free throws and owns a .923 (12-of-13) percentage at the line.
Thompson DeliversPoint guard
J.J. Thompson scored double figures for the first time this year when he dropped in 11 points at Missouri (Dec. 2). Thompson made 4-of-5 field goals and 2-of-4 free throws, while dishing out a game-high six assists in 33 minutes against the Tigers. He had just 17 points in his first six games of the season combined.
Langford Out for SaturdayJosh Langford will miss Saturday's game against Southeastern Louisiana due to a knee injury. Langford sustained an injury to his left knee late in the Redhawks 65-61 loss at Missouri (Dec. 2). His status is day-to-day.
We Meet AgainGuard Zay Jackson, formerly of Murray State, is Southeastern Louisiana's leading scorer with 15.3 points per game this season. Jackson played two games against the Redhawks in 2011-12. He tallied nine points, four rebounds and one assist in those two contests. Jackson was the backup to point guard Isaiah Canaan on a Racers team that went 31-2 overall that year.
Approaching 700Jarekious Bradley's latest 12-point effort at Missouri (Dec. 2) moved him closer to 700 points in his two-year Southeast career. A native of Memphis, Tenn., Bradley currently has 690 points in 37 games and 30 starts as a Redhawk. He owns a career scoring average of 18.6 points per game.
30-Point WinsSoutheast's 85-51 victory over Alabama A&M (Nov. 29) marked the second time this season where the Redhawks won a game by more than 30. Southeast is allowing only 50 points per game at home.
