Offense Struggles in 4-0 Loss to Murray State in Series Opener

The Redhawks were shutout for the second time in OVC play this season

MURRAY, Ky. – Southeast Missouri was held to three hits in a 4-0 loss to Murray State Friday afternoon at Reagan Field in Murray, Ky. The Redhawks drop to 21-26 overall and 12-13 in the OVC as the Thoroughbreds move to 19-27 and 7-15 in the OVC.

Zack Smith (2-5) was solid on the mound allowing four with two being earned runs on 10 hits as he strikeout eight batters in eight innings of work.

Matt Tellor led the Redhawks with a pair of hits going 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

Cameron Finch (5-3) got the win for Murray State going five innings allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

The 'Breds got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Murray State loaded the bases and scored on an RBI single by Brandon Eggenschweiler. But Smith got out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.

Murray State added three runs in the fifth inning on three hits as the Redhawks made two errors in the frame. Eggenschweiler highlighted the inning with a single to left field that went under the glove Derek Gibson that allowed two runs to score as the 'Breds led 4-0 after five innings.

Finch then finished the game retiring the 11 straight Redhawks on the way to the Murray State 4-0 win.
