Young Guns Help Redhawks Down Belmont, 2-1

Alex Winkelman and Alex Siddle combined for eight scoreless innings

JACKSON, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri freshmen Alex Winkelman and Alex Siddle combined for eight scoreless innings as the Redhawks downed Belmont 2-1 in an elimination game in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in Jackson, Tenn. on Friday afternoon.
 
Winkelman (4-4) earned the win going 6.1 innings allowing only three hits with two walks. Siddle followed with 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.
 
Bobby Hurst earned his seventh save of the season as he is now tied for third in single season saves in school history as well as third in career saves with nine. He also made his 29th appearance of the season a mark that is tied for second at Southeast.
 
Jason Blum led also made history on the afternoon as he was hit with his 23rd pitch of the season, an OVC single season record. Nolan Fisher, Clayton Evans and Nolan Fisher added a pair of hits for the Redhawks.
 
The Redhawks got on the board first in the first inning as Jason Blum scored on an error by the Bruins second baseman on a hit off the bat of Dalton Hewitt.
 
Southeast could not muster another run until the bottom of the sixth inning as Andy Lack drove in a run on an RBI single up the middle to give the Redhawks a 2-0 lead.
 
Southeast allowed Belmont to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Hurst got out of the jam only allowing a run on a sacrifice fly as the Redhawks advanced with a 2-1 win.
 
The Redhawks outhit Belmont 8-5 on the day as Matt Beaty and Alec Diamond led the Bruins as they each added a pair of hits.
 
The Redhawks are currently playing Eastern Kentucky in an elimination game.
