Quick Tips
Welcome to the Hall of Fame
Southeast's 2012 Hall of Fame Class will be recognized at halftime of Saturday's men's basketball game against Eastern Illinois. This year's class, which was inducted during a special dinner and ceremony at the Show Me Center Friday, includes Jim Hamby (Assistant Football Coach, 1958-1968), Christine (Ridenour) Vanatta (Cross Country/Track & Field, 1982-1984), Ron & Mary Hines (Sports Information Director, 1980-2009), Beverly Slaughter (Track & Field, 1981), Galen McSpadden (Baseball, 1971-1974) and the 1999-2000 Men's Basketball Team.
Smith Breaks Southeast's All-Time Career Record in Three-Pointers Made
Marland Smith broke Southeast's all-time career record in three-point field goals made when he made 3-of-4 against SIU Edwardsville Thursday. A native of Little Rock, Ark., Smith set the new record when he dropped in a three to give the Redhawks a 66-54 lead with 7:23 left in the game. His 220 career threes surpassed Derek Winans' previous record of 219 from 2001-05.
The Chase is On
Nino Johnson's career-high seven blocks against SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 7) put him within striking distance of Southeast's all-time single-season record. Johnson leads the Redhawks and ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference with 64 blocks this year. He is currently tied for second with Reggie Golson (2004-05) on that list. Johnson needs 12 more swats to surpass Bud Eley's present record of 75 blocks in 1998-99.
Series History
Southeast trailes its all-time series against Eastern Illinois by a count of 23-20. The Panthers ended the Redhawks four-game winning streak in the series when they held on for a 78-72 overtime victory on Jan. 26 in Charleston. Southeast has beaten EIU at the Show Me Center each of the last two seasons.
Final Home OVC Contest
Southeast and Eastern Illinois tangle in the Redhawks final Ohio Valley Conference home game this season. The Redhawks are currently 4-3 against league foes in Cape Girardeau. Southeast will look to earn back-to-back OVC home wins for the first time since opening conference play with a 65-60 victory over UT Martin (Dec. 29) and an 86-84 win over Austin Peay (Jan. 3).
