Quick Tips

Redhawks Look to Keep Winning Streak Alive
Southeast enters the week on a three-game winning streak after picking up a 96-74 victory at UT Martin (Feb. 16). The Redhawks are second in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division and sixth in the league's overall standings. Southeast is on its longest winning streak in conference play this season.

OVC Tournament Picture
Five teams have punched their tickets to the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, set for Mar. 6-9 in Nashville, Tenn. Belmont, Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee State and Morehead State form that group. Southeast can secure its third-straight OVC Tournament berth with a win at Jacksonville State Wednesday.

Smith Heats Up
Marland Smith has been on fire from three-point range as of late. Smith recently posted his second-straight 20+ scoring effort when he dropped in 22 points at UT Martin (Feb. 16). Smith made 8-of-11 field goals and buried 5-of-7 three-pointers in 36 minutes. He tossed in 18 points in the first half, where he scored 11 of the Redhawks first 14 points of the game. Smith knocked down three 3-pointers in a 3:40 span during that stretch. He shot 65.3 percent (17-of-26) from behind the arc over his last three starts.

Let's Get Another
Southeast, which is 14-13 overall, needs one more win to match its most victories in a season under head coach Dickey Nutt. The Redhawks won 15 games in 2011-12. Southeast last had 15 or more wins in back-to-back seasons during the 1999-2000 (24-7) and 2000-01 (18-12) campaigns.

Four to Go
Nino Johnson is four blocks away from breaking Southeast's all-time single-season record. Johnson leads the Redhawks, ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference and 19th in the nation with 72 blocked shots this season. He is averaging 2.7 per game and gathered 15 swats -- including a career-high seven vs. SIUE -- over his last three contests. Johnson is chasing Bud Eley's current record of 75 blocks in 1998-99. Additionally, Johnson ranks fifth all-time with 80 career blocks at Southeast.

20-Point Party
Southeast had three players score 20 or more points in a game for the first time this season. Marland Smith poured in 22 points, while Nick Niemczyk and Lucas Nutt followed with 21 and 20, respectively, at UT Martin (Feb. 16). Redhawk players have scored 20+ points a total of 19 times this year.

Three-Point Flurry
The Redhawks buried a combined 27 three-pointers in their last two games. Southeast fell one three shy of tying a single-game record when it made 15 vs. Eastern Illinois (Feb. 9). A week later, the Redhawks knocked down 12 at UT Martin (Feb. 16). Southeast, which shot a scorching 56.3 percent (27-of-48) from downtown, hit its most three-point shots in a two-game stretch this season. The Redhawks are now third in the Ohio Valley Conference with a .379 three-point field goal percentage.

Strong Starts Equal Wins
Southeast led by 20 or more points at halftime in each of its last two games. The Redhawks shot 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the field en route to a 48-23 halftime lead against Eastern Illinois (Feb. 9). Southeast then shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the field in the first half at UT Martin (Feb. 16) and led, 50-30, at the intermission. The Redhawks also drained 19 three-pointers in the first half during that two-game span.

Niemczyk Comes Up Big
Nick Niemczyk came off the bench to score a season-high 21 points at UT Martin (Feb. 16). Niemczyk, who missed two-straight games with a sprained left ankle, shot a near-perfect 6-of-7 from the field and 7-of-8 at the free throw line during his return against the Skyhawks. He scored 12 of his points in the second half and played a total of 25 minutes.

Number 100
Wednesday will mark the 100th game for Lucas Nutt in a Southeast uniform. Nutt is coming off a 20-point effort at UT Martin (Feb. 16), which saw him make 5-of-7 field goals, 3-of-5 threes and 7-of-8 free throws. He also dished out a game-high seven assists against the Skyhawks. Nutt will become the second active Redhawk to reach 100 career games. Marland Smith (120) is the other.

Living Large
Southeast matched a season-high 96 points in its latest win over UT Martin (Feb. 16). The Redhawks +22 (96-74) margin of victory was its largest in Ohio Valley Conference play and fourth overall this season. Southeast scored over 90 points in an OVC road game for the first time since putting up 96 at Murray State on Jan. 8, 2007.

Nutt Approaching 500 Games
Dickey Nutt will coach his 497th career game when Southeast takes the court at Jacksonville State Wednesday. Nutt is 235-261 in nearly 17 years as an NCAA Division I head coach. He has coached a total of 120 games (46-74) at Southeast.

Series History
Jacksonville State leads the all-time series against Southeast, 12-4. These teams have battled to a 3-3 mark over the last three years. The Redhawks lost three of their last four games in Pete Mathews Coliseum, suffering a 69-59 setback there a year ago.

Against the East
Southeast crosses over to the Ohio Valley Conference East Division for the final time this regular-season. The Redhawks are currently 1-4 against that side of the conference this season. Southeast's only win against an East Division opponent was a 74-62 home victory over Tennessee Tech (Jan. 19). East Division teams are a combined 22-7 against the West Division this season.

Unstoppable Smith
Since Marland Smith was inserted back into the starting lineup on Jan. 19, he has scored double figures in five of seven games, including the last three in a row. Smith snapped out of his mid-season slump by breaking Southeast's all-time career record in three-pointers made when he scored 13 points and went 3-of-4 from behind the arc against SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 7). He followed that up with back-to-back 20-point performances. Smith erupted for a season-high 29 points and tied a Southeast single-game record nine three-pointers against Eastern Illinois (Feb. 9). He caught fire to shoot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field in that game. Smith then scored 22 points to lead Southeast to victory at UT Martin (Feb. 16). The Redhawks have won three-straight games when Smith has scored double figures. He shot over 60 percent (62.8) from the field and three-point range (65.3), while averaging 21.3 points per game in his last three starts alone.
