CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The University of Missouri-Kansas City (6-5) knocked down 13 three-pointers in a 74-69 win over Southeast Missouri (4-6) Saturday night at the Show Me Center. The Kangaroos handed the Redhawks their first home loss of the season.

UMKC shot 61.9 percent from three-point range and drained eight of its treys in the first half.

"That is what they do," said Southeast head coach Dickey Nutt. "They shot the ball well and I could tell the way their night was going to go."

Reggie Chamberlain nailed a near-perfect 4-of-5 three-pointers and scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half. Chamberlain hit three of those shots in the first seven minutes of the contest, as the Kangaroos built a 41-28 lead at the break.

After Marland Smith's jumper pulled Southeast to within two (16-14) at the 11:32 mark, UMKC went on a 14-4 run to take a 30-18 lead on Nate Rogers' three with 6:05 left.

Southeast, which trailed by as many as 16 points (44-28) when Kirk Korver dropped in a three-pointer less than two minutes into the second half, battled back to pull to within two again, this time when Smith hit a pair of free throws to make it 58-56 with 4:47 remaining.

However, the Kangaroos answered with back-to-back three-pointers to take a 64-56 advantage. Korver and Chamberlain accounted for those buckets.

Smith's three-pointer and layup narrowed UMKC's lead to three twice in the final 32 seconds, but the Kangaroos were able to pull away.

Southeast was in position to make a big defensive stop immediately after Smith's trey, but Rogers broke away for a layup off a tipped pass at halfcourt.

UMKC also added four free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Chamberlain shot 7-of-15 from the field, 5-of-9 from three-point range and 4-of-4 at the free throw line to lead the Kangaroos.

UMKC poured in 13 of its 21 three-point attempts. Northern Illinois was the last opponent to make 13 or more three-pointers against Southeast on Feb. 21, 2009.

"They were shooting lights out," said Southeast forward Leon Powell. "It seemed like everything they threw up went in."

Powell and Smith led the Redhawks with 21 points apiece. Powell also pulled down 10 rebounds, recording his third-straight double-double.

Smith shot 6-of-15 from the field, made two three-pointers and pitched in 7-of-8 free throws in 40 minutes. Additionally, he dished out six assists and posted six rebounds.

Tyler Stone followed with 12 points.

Southeast outrebounded UMKC, 38-24, and turned the ball over only once in the second half.

The Redhawks will break for final exams before hosting SMU on Dec. 19. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., CT, at the Show Me Center.
