Redhawks Host Austin Peay in Final Midweek Matchup of Season
Southeast Missouri Baseball (31-16) will play its final Tuesday matchup of the 2026 regular season tomorrow, May 5, as they welcome in former OVC-member Austin Peay (23-24) to Cape Girardeau. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., CT. from Capaha Field.

Cinco De Mayo
Tuesday's contest falls on Cinco De Mayo! Fans are encouraged to come celebrate the holiday with SEMO Baseball team at Capaha. The first fans through the gates can receive a free 'Los Redhawks' hat courtesy of Burritoville along with enjoying $2 Hispanic themed concession stand items such as margaritas, walking tacos, and more.

Sawyers vs. APSU
The Redhawks will reconvene with their longtime Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay on Tuesday evening. The matchup marks the 19th time the two have met under SEMO's Head Coach Andy Sawyers. SEMO holds a 10-8 overall record against the Governors during that time, including an 8-7 victory in Clarksville, Tennessee the last time the two played in 2024.

Weekend Recap
SEMO Baseball suffered a setback this past weekend at Eastern Illinois dropping all three games to the Panthers in Charleston, Illinois. The Redhawks began the series with a 5-3 loss on Friday night. Joe Hall's infield single brought in SEMO's first run of the day in the third inning before center fielder Caleb Klein hit his eighth home run of the season in the fifth inning. A two-run shot that made it 3-2 SEMO. EIU would score the next three runs of the game to seal the opening game victory. SEMO struggled to get anything going on Saturday evening as they suffered an 11-1 loss in eight innings. The Redhawks were held to just three hits with their lone run coming on a ground ball, double play with the bases loaded in the first inning. Sunday's contest saw the Redhawks take a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning. The Redhawks got all three of their runs in the fourth inning via a two-RBI single from Carson Schrack and a wild pitch that brought home Andrew Ramirez to make it 3-1 after the fourth. A run for the Panthers in the sixth brought them to within a run before a big six-run seventh inning secured the series sweep for the home team.

Non-Conference
SEMO Baseball will play its 27th and final non-conference matchup of the 2026 campaign. The Redhawks have done a great job this season of handling their non-conference opponents having posted a 19-7 record against them and are looking for win number 20 outside of the OVC on Tuesday night. Last season, the Redhawks finished just 14-14 against their non-conference foes.

At Capaha
Tuesday's contest marks the fourth-to-last game inside the friendly confines of Capaha Field for the 2026 campaign. SEMO Baseball has posted an impressive 19-5 record in Cape Girardeau this season, and had a game cancelled last Tuesday (4/28) taking away one home game. The Redhawks host Austin Peay tomorrow before concluding the home portion of the regular season with Southern Indiana this weekend (May 8-10).

Left or Right
SEMO Baseball has been lethal against either right-handed or left-handed starting pitchers. In 47 games, the Redhawks have gone 22-10 against RHP and an impressive 9-4 against LHP.

What a Stat
SEMO Baseball has found most of their success when outhitting its opponents this season. The Redhawks have posted a perfect 23-0 in games in which they have recorded more hits than their opponents compared to just an 8-16 record when they have been outhit.

Where We Stand
After the weekend at Eastern Illinois, SEMO Baseball has fallen back to sole possession of fourth place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. With just six more OVC games to go, SEMO holds a 12-9 overall record and are two games behind Little Rock (14-7) for third place. Eastern Illinois and SIUE sit atop the league each with a 15-6 overall record.

Sixth
DH/Outfielder Joe Hall enters the final two weeks of the regular season as the Redhawks' top hitter. Hall, a native of Kansas City, Mo., has a .360 batting average and ranks sixth in the OVC in the category. Through 47 games, Hall is 68-189 at the plate with 11 home runs, 14 doubles, and 45 RBIs driven in. He is slugging an impressive .608 on the season and has an OPS of 1.046.

Middle Defense
Part of SEMO's team defense success starts up the middle at the shortstop and second base positions on the infield and Caleb Klein in center field. Andrew Ramirez and Brooks Kettering are two of the best infielders in the Ohio Valley Conference and have led SEMO to the league's highest fielding percentage (.985). Kettering ranks ninth in the league with a fielding percentage of .995 while Ramirez follows behind with a .981. Klein roams center field and has a perfect 1.000 fielding-percentage as he ranks tied for first in the OVC.

Punch 'Em Out
RHP Mason Pennington leads the Redhawks in striking out opponents this season. Pennington has struck out 61 opposing hitters this season over 59.1 innings pitched. He ranks fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference trailing Seth Benes of Lindenwood who leads the OVC with 67 Ks.
