CHARLESTON, Ill. — Southeast Missouri (31-15, 12-8) fell to Eastern Illinois (27-15, 14-6) with a final score of 11-1 at Frost Field on Saturday evening. Despite recording three hits and five walks, the Redhawks managed just one run in the first inning, while Eastern Illinois accumulated 11 runs on 11 hits.
Southeast Missouri State started the game with an early lead, as
Caleb Klein doubled to left field and eventually scored on a double play, putting the team ahead 1-0. Eastern Illinois quickly responded in the bottom half, tying the game with an RBI single from Mike O'Conor. The score was 1-1 after the first inning.
In the second inning, Eastern Illinois gained momentum with Peyton Wilson scoring on a single by Brett Stanley, followed by an RBI single from Chris Worcester, extending the home team's lead to 3-1. The score remained 3-1 after two innings.
Eastern Illinois widened its lead in the third with a three-RBI double by Tyler Castro, bringing the score to 6-1. Southeast Missouri State was unable to respond in their half of the inning, and the score stood at 6-1 after three innings.
