CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Southeast Missouri Baseball (25-11, 8-4 OVC) fell to Morehead State (17-18, 5-7 OVC) with a final score of 6-5 on Sunday at Capaha Field. The Redhawks tallied five runs in the third inning, but Morehead State secured the win with two runs in the ninth.
Morehead State opened the game with two runs in the first inning. Krupp walked and later scored on a groundout, while Kearns also crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The inning ended with Morehead State leading 2-0.
In the second inning, the Eagles added to their lead with a two-run homer by Correa, bringing the score to 4-0.
SEMO responded in the third inning.
Caleb Klein hit a solo home run to put the home team on the board. Following Klein's homer,
Cal Sullivan and
Joe Hall both singled, setting up
Ryan Lopetegui, who delivered a crucial grand slam, bringing Southeast Missouri ahead with a 5-4 lead.
The game remained scoreless from the fourth through the eighth innings, maintaining SEMO's one-run advantage.
In a tense ninth inning, Morehead State regained the lead. Hart, a pinch runner, stole second and scored on Correa's second home run of the game, a two-run shot to left center. The final score was Morehead State 6, Southeast Missouri 5.
