Morehead State opened the game with two runs in the first inning. Krupp walked and later scored on a groundout, while Kearns also crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The inning ended with Morehead State leading 2-0.
In the second inning, the Eagles added to their lead with a two-run homer by Correa, bringing the score to 4-0.
SEMO responded in the third inning. Caleb Klein hit a solo home run to put the home team on the board. Following Klein's homer, Cal Sullivan and Joe Hall both singled, setting up Ryan Lopetegui, who delivered a crucial grand slam, bringing Southeast Missouri ahead with a 5-4 lead.
The game remained scoreless from the fourth through the eighth innings, maintaining SEMO's one-run advantage.
In a tense ninth inning, Morehead State regained the lead. Hart, a pinch runner, stole second and scored on Correa's second home run of the game, a two-run shot to left center. The final score was Morehead State 6, Southeast Missouri 5.
