Tennis Wraps Up Hurricane Invite

TULSA, Okla. – After finishing a match against Wyoming, Southeast Missouri tennis team battled through a tough match Saturday, ultimately falling 5–2 to Louisiana Tech.

In the Wyoming match, SEMO fell behind after the singles portion Friday 5-1 picking up a win from Mia Mayerova. In the doubles portion of the match, Mayerova paired up with Maja Bajorek to earn the lone win for the Redhawks.

The Redhawks picked up a strong start in singles play against Louisiana Tech, highlighted by Bajorek's convincing performance at No. 2 singles. Bajorek controlled the match from the opening games, earning a 6–2, 6–2 victory over Nina Skoric to give SEMO its first point of the day. Juliette Demunck added another point for the Redhawks at No. 4 singles, posting a straight-set win over June Vigneron, 6–4, 6–2.

In doubles play, SEMO earned a notable win at the No. 3 position as Demunck and Kristina Kozakova teamed up for a 6–4 victory over Mio Kozaki and Diana Starodubtseva. The Redhawks were competitive in the other doubles matches, including a narrow 7–5 loss at the top spot, but Louisiana Tech claimed the doubles point.

"We've shown a lot of improvement since we played [Louisiana Tech] last year, said coach Steve Brooks, "Sofia played a great match against a girl that went to the round of 16 in the NCAA Conference Masters."

The tennis team returns to the court Saturday when it travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa to battle with the University of Northern Iowa.
